GOP Surrogates Advocate Treasonous Acts?

by: Todd Hill

Tue Mar 10, 2009 at 07:24 PM CDT

When former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee was running in the Republican presidential primary last election cycle he would often tote around his favorite actor and self-proclaimed superhero, Chuck Norris, to introduce him and warm up the crowds.

Once a surrogate for a Republican running for President of the United States, Norris now wishes to be President of Texas just as soon as the Lone Star State secedes from the Union:

On Glenn Beck's radio show last week, I quipped in response to our wayward federal government, "I may run for president of Texas."

That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.

Norris went on to say:

I'm not saying that other states won't muster the gumption to stand and secede, but Texas has the history to prove it.

Norris also noted that Fox talking head, and radio commentator Glenn Beck, coupled with supporters like Norris, will gather in "cell groups" across the country in a show of solidarity against Congress.

That's not all, either.  The Norris/Beck secession chatter came off the heels of one of the Right's favorite GQ boys, Sean Hannity, posting on his website a poll asking "What kind of revolution appeals most to you?"  Your choices?  "Military Coup," "Armed Rebellion," and "War of Secession!"

So this is what the GOP has come to?  The Republican Party and their ideologues with microphones and television shows are so inept as to muster a platform of policies to counter the popular vision of the President of the United States and so instead begin to organize in "cell groups" and actually poll interest in, and publicly talk of, secession from the Union?  This is what the 'Party of Lincoln' has come to?  Overtaken by extremists and fanatics who advocate and poll secession, as well as organize in "cell groups" to challange our government?

Had this happened during the previous administration you or I would be locked in Guantanamo Bay and water boarded at the pleasure of former Vice President Dick Cheney faster than bluebonnets blooming in the spring.

The GOP has simply gone mad.  The elected leadership of the Republican Party best get control of their surrogates and talking heads before they go on to incite violence against the federal government of the United States.

sorry to be the one... (0.00 / 0)
but it's 'incite'

And yes, these people have all lost what few moorings they had in the real world. Sweet music, indeed.

Thanks (0.00 / 0)
for the note, and the correction was made.

As for sweet music, I don't know if I agree.  As much as I disagree, and certainly work hard against our political opponents, the fact that they are "inciting" or encouraging violence against the federal government is very concerning to me.

Perfect Nominee (0.00 / 0)
For Jackass of the Week.

I think Norris should definitely be in the running.

To recap:

A jackass is viewed as one who is either arrogant or stupid enough to believe he/she can get away with fooling, lying to and/or willfully misleading others.  In other words, any person who holds a position of influence whether one is a politician, elected official, community, or business leader, and this includes all media pundits, anchors and spokespersons for all of the above, who arrogantly or stupidly insults the intelligence of those they do, or hope to influence, is a jackass.

Good Luck to Norris!

The real problem with Norris (0.00 / 0)
Is that he is not a Native Texan.  Like both Bushes, he is a wannabee Native Texan.  The two Georges were born in Massachusetts and Connecticut - need I say more?  Chuck was born in Oklahoma.  You can't blame him for wishing he was a native, but it's always the wannabees who go overboard trying to prove themselves.  Okies' insecurity over not being from Texas is almost legendary.

"Gettin' Ready" (0.00 / 0)
All this revolution talk may sound funny (ok it IS funny)...Still, a friend who is a republican and a hunter is preparing to take his kids out on their first hunting trip. They tried to get into the gun range in Oak Hill the other day and the place was PACKED with rednecks shooting off everything under the sun. There was a long wait just to get a spot. My friend thought the volume of shooters was higher than normal and asked the owner whether there was a new season about to open, because if so he wasn't aware of it.

"Nope" said the owner. "They're just gettin' ready."

"For what?" My friend asked.

"These are hard times...So they're gettin' ready for action."

My friend, who is a self admitted redneck, is seriously thinking of leaving the republican party.

The crazier they talk (0.00 / 0)
...the more they marginalize themselves and their party.

Or, with statements (0.00 / 0)
like those mentioned here and elsewhere, it's like the rest of the world just expects Texans to be really, really weird.

They may marginalize themselves, but with their huge megaphones they hurt us, too.
