Texas Senator Dan Patrick at Hooters

by: Burnt Orange Report

Mon May 07, 2007 at 02:02 PM CDT

Never a hypocrite, Sen. Dan Patrick reviews a sonogram with a young Texan at Hooters. Patrick's SB 920, relating to informed consent to an abortion, is pending at House state affairs. Photo and post concept courtesy of Miya Shay's ABC 13 blog in Houston.

And why is this photo considered noteworthy? (0.00 / 0)

He's fighting immorality over there so we don't have to fight it over here. (5.00 / 4)

Hooters is a restaurant, not a den of iniquity (1.00 / 1)
It's just a sports bar with overpriced food.  It gives unskilled young women a place to get a legal, respectable job that might otherwise be difficult to find.  What's wrong with that?

[ Parent ]
If you don't find the Hooter girl outfits degrading, then you aren't (5.00 / 4)
a woman and don't have a daughter.

I have no problem with the legality of Hooters, just as I have no problem with the legality of Rick's Cabaret, but when you suggest that the job is "respectable," you are jumping the shark.

I read about a lawsuit in Florida where Hooters specifically admitted that the waitresses' outfits were purposefully designed “to provide vicarious sexual recreation, to titillate, entice, and arouse male customers' fantasies."  Here's some light reading on the topic:  http://www.nyu.edu/c...

Hooters is a perfectly legal business which selects its young female employees according to an apparent profile and then treats those employees poorly.  It's legal, and no one's saying it shouldn't be, but it certainly isn't "respectable" in the sense many people would feel damn awkward taking their grandmother there.

You admit the food is overpriced. Ask yourself, is there maybe something you're paying for besides the food?

Oh jeez.... (0.00 / 0)
Do you watch Jerry Falwell's Sunday morning programs?

[ Parent ]
Hell, I'm for legalized prostitution. I'm just not laboring under the (4.50 / 4)
illusion that it's "respectable."

Here's Dan Patrick who has a bill to require all woman who need an abortion to get a sonogram to see the fetus they need to abort.  This law would apply to woman with ectopic pregnancies and other circumstances where there is 0% chance the fetus could survive and 100% that not having an abortion would result in the woman's death.

Meanwhile, we're all living in a state where people are dying of undiagnosed cancer because they can't afford a sonogram or other diagnostic imaging.  I'd gladly make a deal with the devil (by whom I mean Patrick), that I'll agree that he can provide all pregnant woman with sonograms if he will also provide them to people who have a medical need for a sonogram.

Finally, do you agree or disagree that Hooters promotes the same sort of conduct which results in young woman needing one of Dan Patrick's little sonograms?

[ Parent ]
Well, glad to hear that you believe in individual freedom... (0.00 / 0)
and I'm as cynical of Rep. Patrick as everyone else. A pastor I once knew that circulated petitions against the Texas Lottery in the early 1990s later purchased a lottery ticket years after the lottery first made its debut. I don't trust any of our legislative moral police. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the Hooters chicks contribute to his campaign.

Politicians are two-faced, with the exception of very few. Gingrich blasted Clinton for having an extramarital affair in the Oval Office while secretly carrying out his own affair; Nanci Pelosi championed her work to push through a minimum wage bill while getting an exemption for a tuna fish packaging company in her home district.

To me, politicians are hypocrites, whether they have a D or R in front of their names. And I agree that Hooters does give a bad image to beautiful women, yet that's not gonna stop me from getting a burger there on Saturday night and playing the piano at church on Sunday morning. To me, food is food.

And as for abortions, why in the world is NARAL or the Christian Coalition involved? It shouldn't even be a political issue to begin with.

Are you suggesting (0.00 / 0)
That Jerry Falwell is titillating? Ewwwwwwwwwww

Hope is not a plan.

[ Parent ]
Wrong! (0.00 / 0)
My teenage daughter often asks me to taker her to Hooters.  She enjoys commenting on which waitresses "aren't in very good shape", which to her makes them more like real people and less like objects.

[ Parent ]
Oh brother! (5.00 / 1)
I'd no more take my daughter to Hooters than my son. Hooters is degrading to women and if your daughter often wants to go there to talk about which women "aren't in very good shape", she's too shallow for words.

[ Parent ]
Have you ever been there? (0.00 / 0)
What is the basis for that remark?  What do you know about it?  All they do is wait tables.

[ Parent ]
I don't have to actually (0.00 / 0)
go into a strip joint to know that it's degrading to women.

[ Parent ]
When did Hooters all of a sudden... (0.00 / 0)
become a strip joint? It's a burger restauraunt with waitresses in tight t-shirts in short shorts. And even more modestly dressed than a bikini bar.

Good grief, I'm starting to think that some BOR members are turning into right-wing fundamentalists. LOL

hOOters (0.00 / 0)
is a a strip joint for men and women without the balls to go to a real strip joint.

[ Parent ]
Take out (0.00 / 0)
Actually, my wife and I will quite often order Hooters wings for take out. We go there for the food, not the waitresses. We will usually call ahead for take-out, though we have gone their together to eat. They have the best wings around, and that is the only reason we go.

It's amazing you have children at all with that attitude (0.00 / 0)
Did the stork leave them on your virginal doorstep?

[ Parent ]
Now THAT's just plain nasty. (0.00 / 0)

Don't let the Blue Dogs getcha down. Primary them.

NOTE TO SELF: Remove Wanderer from list of potential baby-sitters (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
What the hell was I doing on that list to begin with? (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
They have GREAT specials on chicken wings. (3.75 / 4)
But the real question is what lobbyist picked up the tab?

Oh sure (2.00 / 1)
pretend you go to Hooters for the Chicken wings and not for the Girls in short shorts. That's what all guys claim.

At least once last session and probably this session, Lobbyists paid to have Hooters catered in a legislator's capital office.  With Hooters girls serving up the food.
I'm okay with the a nutjob senator eating at Hooters on the weekend, but I draw the line with Hooter's girls walking around the capitol with Chicken wings.
If you expect me to wear a suit they need to be covered up too.

[ Parent ]
You obviously don't know (5.00 / 1)
Glen very well (ROFLMAO)

Don't let the Blue Dogs getcha down. Primary them.

[ Parent ]
actually (0.00 / 0)
that was the joke.  funny?  guess not.

[ Parent ]
birds of a feather (5.00 / 2)
He is a gigantic boob...so it is only natural he should end up there.

This really isn't fair.  He only goes there for the wings and he only reads Playboy for the articles.

Me too.

Reminds me of a saying... (0.00 / 0)
that when a man is younger, he buys a Playboy for the pictures, and the articles put him to sleep.

When he is older, he buys a Playboy for the articles, and the pictures put him to sleep...lol

LOL.... (0.00 / 0)
Hey, it's just what I heard...and besides, pictures are a waste of time for me...

Patrick is boobalicious. (5.00 / 1)
And a big hoot.

I would say (0.00 / 0)
he's a big dick. Not in the "attribute" sense.

[ Parent ]
Who cares about Dan Patrick... (0.00 / 0)
she is stunning.

Oh yeah, Patrick's a hypocrite all right (0.00 / 0)
Consider this in your calculations (courtesy of someone who knows what the heck he's talking about):

1. The guy in the stripped shirt with his back to the camera–that’s Dan’s son, Ryan.

2. The woman in the blue shirt, in between Ryan and Dan in the picture–that’s Ryan’s girlfriend.

3. They all wanted to go somewhere to watch the Rockets game together.

4. The first restaurant they went to was jam-packed, and Ryan’s girlfriend likes the fried pickles they serve at Hooters.

There’s your scandal. Ryan Patrick’s girlfriend likes’ Hooter’s fried pickles.  Woohoo.

Thanks for explaining that Patrick was just showing his family values (5.00 / 2)
BREAKING NEWS:  Randall Tobias explains that he patronized Deborah Jeane Palfrey's massage service because Sen. Dan Patrick's son's girlfriend likes the pickles there.

P.S.  I offer Sen. Patrick this pledge which he may want to take for the benefit of all Texas parents with daughters, "I, Dan Patrick, patron saint of female chastity and virginity, hereby pledge from this day forward that, if your daughter is dating my son, I will not take her to Hooters."

[ Parent ]
Talk about your Straw Men (0.00 / 0)
Yeah, as if DP's going to Hooters to have some wings (even with his adult son and his son's adult girlfriend is remotely comparable to Tobias' patronizing a "massage service" that is at best questionable.  Good call, STD...

[ Parent ]
What's worse, blaming your son's girlfriend when you get caught (5.00 / 2)
in a situation which conflicts with your self-righteous phony image or making a joke about a phony state senator who blames his son's girlfriend when he gets caught in a situation which conflicts with his self-righteous fake image?

I'm going to go with the blaming the son's girlfriend, but I'm sure the girlfriend and the Hooters Girls appreciate Patrick's selfless work on behalf of women everywhere.  Patrick's a real prince.

[ Parent ]
I can't decide... (5.00 / 1)
What is yuckier - a republican with no sense of humor - or a democrat with no sense of humor.

Wait...I decided...cause I am the decider.

republicans.

the d's are just sad.

Next stop for Dan? Ricks Cabaret! (5.00 / 1)
Someone give that man a fist full of dollars!

only if... (4.00 / 2)
His son's girlfriend wants to go there for Rick's menu.

[ Parent ]
LOL... (5.00 / 1)
It's certainly better than him going to Lebares because his son likes the fried pickles, isn't it? :)

[ Parent ]
That's next week (5.00 / 2)
Dan's too busy this week tilting at windmills and showboating.

Dan Patrick--the poor, stupid man's Rush Limp-baugh.

[ Parent ]
Yup... (5.00 / 4)
On a more serious note, where better to go to discuss a bill to restrict women's rights and take away their rights over their own body than a place founded on the principle of objectifying women?  Everyone's saying he's not a consistant moral voice, but at least he's a consistant mysogynist!!! :)
