Lieberman vs. Lamont

by: Phillip Martin

Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 03:49 PM CDT

In a battle that will decide THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD, tonight the polls will close in the Connecticut Senate Democratic primary race between incumbent Joe "Darth Vader" Lieberman and challenger Ned "Markos Skywalker" Lamont.

I'd link you to Lieberman's website, but apparently their $15/month server can't handle traffic right now, as Dobbs and Daily Kos have pointed out. And for more on this race, Pink Lady brings the funny not once, not twice, but three times (that lady).

If you haven't already voted, please do so in our front page poll. As of this posting, Lamont has 73%, Lieberman has about 16%, and 11% don't care what happens, so long as Tom Delay stays off the Connecticut ballot.

Which adds up to 149%.

Sorry. Fixed it.

.......that may turn out to be the "line of the day". We'll see.

Ya know... (0.00 / 0)
Just because one disagrees with Lieberman on the issues does not make him a "bad" person.  I have many Republican friends, and they are not "bad" people.  Not ALL Republicans are good, there are some REALLY evil ones out there.  Same with Democrats.  Joe Lieberman is most certainly not evil nor the least bit corrupt.  He is an honest honorable man, and it is sad this race is seen by so many people in a good verses evil frame.

Politics is emotional... (0.00 / 0)
Just the way it is.

pessemist (0.00 / 0)
That is certainly a pessemistic way to look at it.

It isn't always that way, and we shouldn't expect it that way.  Its refreshing every once in a while when you see a race where you have trouble deciding on who you want to vote for because you LIKE both candidates.

It doesn't happen often, but it happens.

The water is freezing and there aren't enough votes... (0.00 / 0)
He IS an honest man, but when one gets desperate campaigns start flailing around and looking for any "miracle."  I can promise you, in THEIR minds, it WAS an attack.  You've been attacked on the air, in the mailboxes, on the debate stage, at rallies, etc.  In their minds, when the site crashed, they ASSUMED it was a DOS attack.  Obviously, not.  They were a victim of buying a cheap host.  Please refrain from the Jew jokes about being too cheap to buy a decent host, Lord knows I've already heard them all.

Basically, the campaign thought they were being attacked and thought it could be their miracle.  They ran with it.  They didn't get it "right" before they did.  Now they look stupid.

No one mentioned the word "Jew" before you came along (0.00 / 0)
And tried to stink up the discourse with race-baiting bullshit.

Kindly refrain in the future.

Lieberman is dishonest to the core.

His entire campaign this go-round has been based upon fabrication after distortion after lie after self-important petulant grandstanding and base hypocrisy.

Go peddle your sympathy wares elsewhere.

Care the breath... (0.00 / 0)
First off, an honest question.  Was your June 22 comment about Jews racist?  I'm wondering if there IS some underlying anti-semitism here.  If not, I apologize, but I do think that's a valid question.  Second, and most important IT WAS A JOKE!!!! IT WAS A FREAKING JOKE!!!  I TOLD TWO FRIENDS AND BOTH MADE THAT COMMENT BACK IN JEST!  I certainly at NO point have called Lamont supporters anti-Semitic and am wondering if YOU are anti-Semitic because 1) the lady doth protest too much 2) you have a history of posts on the topic.  To my knowledge, no other Lamont supporter is and I CERTAINLY do not believe Lamont is in ANY way.

It's comments like yours that I was talking about when I mentioned the soldiers, and I ask, who the heck are YOU to tell me where to peddle MY wares.  Suddenly if I'm not 100% pro Lamont I'm not welcome on the blogosphere?

And for the record... (0.00 / 0)
I will support the Democratic nominee that is chosen tonight and will not support ANY independent.  Same promise I make in every race.

TAKE a breath... (0.00 / 0)
...and I will too.

My J-22 comment was harshly sardonic and cynical.

I was taking an explicit stab at the Republican Party and their sanctimony and a passing stab at the "You're either Pro-Israel or an anti-semite" organizations I rattled off.

I don't know if that one posts constitutes a history or not, I mean, I guess, technically.

Anyway, I'm not trying to force you away from the fascist blogs, I just meant that cries of anti-semitism have no place in discussions of the Connecticut Democratic Primary for United States Senator.

That's all.

And, if you say your comment was a joke, OK, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

One last thing:

Thank you for supporting the winner of the primary.

Give me a break.

It's time for this neo-con to replace Donald Rumsfeld.

Democrats are better managers after all.

Can you honestly tell me... (0.00 / 0)
there are NO Democrats who are secretely rooting against our soldiers/hoping we lose in Iraq?  And before *I* get attacked for being a neocon, I was protesting the war in Iraq before there WAS a war in Iraq! However, once there was a war, I prayed to God our soldiers would come home safe and would quickly banish their enemies, even though I rationally knew it was not so.  In conversation I have actually heard liberals say they hoped the body count would get high enough that we'd HAVE to pull out.  This angered me.  This INFURIATED me.  I'd imagine Joe has heard the same things and felt the same way.  He failed to adequately understand that is a MINORITY of the anti-Iraq War movement and lumped everyone together.  It was an emotional moment for him, one I can understand

Democrats love troops (0.00 / 0)
I've been involved in various circles for a while and can tell you that no, there are no Democrats rooting for our troops to be harmed.

In fact, everyone is praying things turn around because it would be for the best. Unfortunately, we also know that it's not.

You seem to have defeatism, pessimism and negativity confused with realism. So does  Joe Lieberman.

If the people of CT vote for Lamont, you should not read it as anything other than a desire for real leadership, not obsequiousness.

[ Parent ]
I know you do... (0.00 / 0)
And I deeply respect you as a person and a friend.  Like I said, 95% of people feel like I do, that we're doing this FOR our friends and family who serve in uniform.  It's those others that absolutely disgust me.

[ Parent ]
They are frustrated and angry (0.00 / 0)
and there are some on the R side, too. I would say stupid but it seems rather obvious.

I class the people who want to see our troops dead with those who think we fight everyone. They're all lunatics.

Has Joe run out of Joementum? (0.00 / 0)
Certainly his web presence has.

"Oh, no! They say he's got to go
No mo' Joementum!"

It's Joezilla!

By the way, Phillip, total cool points for "The West Wing" reference: "brings the funny".  Even cooler if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Well (0.00 / 0)
I'll have to settle for "total cool"

Well, attack me for (0.00 / 0)
disliking Joe if you care to.  But I think his little concession speech tonight was vile.  It demonstrated more blatant narcissism than any I have heard in a good long time.  Essentially, the message is this: "I belong to this party, and am at least nominally answerable to the voters of this party.  However, when that party says they don't want me any more, then...fuck 'em, I'll run anyway, and hopefully take away the representation of the party in this state".  This is called being a DOG IN THE MANGER.  Bitterness, spite, and nastiness.

Honorable man?  Nice, non-corrupt man?  After what I saw and heard tonight, I don't give a shit.

OTOH, what I hear from Dems in Texas is this: when the primary is over, it's over.  We support our candidate even if we don't like every little thing about them.  We pull together behind the one who wins the primary, for the good of the party.  I've heard this from Richard Morrison and from Glen Maxey and from others.  And that's the kind of Democrat I want to be, and to vote for.

Fuck Lieberman.  Anybody got a map to Connecticut so I can go block-walk for Lamont?
