University Democrats Endorsements for 2005 Contitutional Amendment Election

By Damon McCullar

I would like to apologize to my readers (i.e. fan base, especially Baby Snooks...love ya Snooks!) that I've not been writing much lately. My laptop suffered a material failure (i.e. it broke) and I will be sans computer for a few weeks. I will try to keep up my weekly segments, but otherwise I might fall off the radar for awhile.

Last night, University Democrats received a report from the issues committee and debated the proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot for 2005. University Democrats had the following endorsements:

State Constitutional Amendments
1 – Oppose
2 – Oppose
3 – Support
4 – Support
5 – Oppose
6 – Support
7 – Oppose
8 – Oppose
9 – Oppose

The wording of the proposed amendments can be found here. Analysis from the Texas Legislative Counsel can be found here.

University Democrats also voted to support all Travis County Bond Propositions on the ballot in November.

It would be nice to know what the rationale was for each of their positions - their opposition to Prop 1 seems short-sighted and irresponsible.

I'm curious about the opp to prop one as well. I'm a Yes on that.

"(i.e. fan base, especially Baby Snooks...love ya Snooks!)"

Are you sure you didn't mean "love to slip some arsenic in your Geritol?"

I'm a fan of all of you. You're too idealistic but that's okay. I was too once. Never let go of the idealism. I didn't. But I accepted that eventually it collides with the reality. Everything in life is about balance. Even politics.

I'm with Tom. Reasons, please.

Prop 1 is a trojan horse measure to get some of the finance crap worked out for the Trans Texas Corridor. Would it do other nice things? I'm sure it would. But the big reason it is on the ballot right now is so that Rick Perry can slap a half-mile wide boondoggle across the face of Texas and destroy our rural communities as we know them.

I don't care if they promise chocolate covered cherries and a sensual massage--if it helps the TTC we ought to stand against it.

And doom the propsects of any future rail proposal that would provide a reasonable alternative to vehicular travel? Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Andrew - surely you can come up with a better rationale for opposition to Prop 1 than a consipiracy theory! Where's the beef Dobbs?

also, why limit seniors on the reverse mortgage issue? that doesn't make sense to me.
