Farouk Shami Says Whites Are Not Willing to Work in Factories, Not Sure About 9/11

by: Phillip Martin

Fri Feb 12, 2010 at 04:44 PM CST

From WFAA in Dallas (video on their site):

Farouk Shami, the millionaire hair care products maker who's running, said he doesn't find many white people willing to work, so he says he hires Hispanics and blacks instead.

[...]

Asked to explain what he meant about not hiring many whites, he said they want special treatment. “A majority of the people are going to be Hispanic and African-American. You don't find white people who are willing to work in factories. And our history proves, you know, lots of time when they, you know, the white people come to work in a factory they either want to be supervisors or they want to be, you know, paid more than the average person. And unfortunately they exit.”

So Farouk -- what about all those white people in your ads?

Not only that -- but after yesterday, how did he not know how to answer this?!?!

And then just a day after Medina, didn't reject the notion that the government was involved in the 9/11 attacks, Shami didn't either. “I'm not sure. I am not going to really judge or answer about something I'm not really sure about. But the rumors are there that there was a conspiracy. True or not? It's hard to believe, you know, what happened. It's really hard to comprehend what happened. Maybe. I'm not sure.”

I mean -- seriously?

What a joke (4.00 / 2)
Buffoon.  Utter buffoon.  Not much else to say than that.

Seriously? (3.00 / 1)
How do you see Medina's blunder and then make the exact same stupid mistake?

I feel sorry for Shami, his heart is in the right place but he's in way, way over his head.

disagree (5.00 / 1)
Respectfully, I disagree with the idea that Shami's heart is in the right place.  A 9/11 Truther (or someone with apparent sympathies in that camp) who makes racially-charged comments while accusing Bill White of being a racist (see Shami's comments about White's bland statement in an ad that he was born in San Antonio) isn't someone we should give the benefit of the doubt to or consider to be basically well-meaning.  The best one can say about Shami is that he is a rich, arrogant buffoon with no business running for office as a Democrat.  I'll leave it to others to state what the worst one can say about him is.

I doubt (0.00 / 0)
that he's actually a 9-11 truther.  If I had to guess I'd say that he really hasn't thought about it, and his mistake is not really thinking seriously about the implications of truther suggestions.  Thats not good of course, but it's not the same as being a truther.

And while his comments about white workers is a stupid thing to say politically, I'll go out on a limb and say there's likely some truth to it, not as an absolute rule but most of the time.

His attack on White was inexcusable, I'll grant you that one.

That's the million dollar question Phillip. Does anyone seriously believe that Farouk Shami seriously believes he could win a primary and become governor?

I think he's a Trojan Horse. And one who knows he is.  I would like to see if his "sales" have increased as the months have gone by.  He can't deduct what's he's spending on the campaign as "advertising" but by the same token Madison Avenue couldn't have gotten him the same "bang for his buck" that his campaign has.

Chi Flat Iron (0.00 / 0)
I noticed that his $139.00 Turbo Digital Flat Iron is the first one "featured" in the flatirons at my local Target. It's a standout. Very nice.

Wait until he introduces his new hair dryer... (0.00 / 0)
He has a new hair dryer coming out.  Very high tech.  Developed with someone at NASA. The claim is it stimulates hair follicles and causes regrowth of hair.  No doubt he will announce it the day before the primary. Might carry him to victory. Definitely will increase his sales.

If he doesn't become governor, he may have discovered a cure for baldness. The latter pays better. So I doubt he will be disappointed if he doesn't become governor.
