CNN Airs Ten-Minute Feature on Rick Perry Investigation Cover-Up

by: Phillip Martin

Wed Oct 14, 2009 at 10:01 AM CDT

The Anderson Cooper feature outright stole the Houston Chronicle's exclusive story last week (without giving them credit) on the new information that Perry's office had information on the faulty arson evidence 88 minutes before Willingham was executed. The feature also has an interview with fired Commissioner Sam Bassett and Texas Monthly Senior Editor Michael Hall.

Again, how was the info the Chron obtained any sort of new information about the report?  I thought the New Yorker article on Willingham that kicked this all off had already revealed that Hurst's report was sent to and received by Perry's office.

From the New Yorker:

The Innocence Project obtained, through the Freedom of Information Act, all the records from the governor's office and the board pertaining to Hurst's report. "The documents show that they received the report, but neither office has any record of anyone acknowledging it, taking note of its significance, responding to it, or calling any attention to it within the government," Barry Scheck said. "The only reasonable conclusion is that the governor's office and the Board of Pardons and Paroles ignored scientific evidence."

His office is denying information/request/inquiry into that.

Also - practically speaking - the number of people who actually have read the New Yorker report (like you and me) vs. people hearing about it for the first time in the Houston Chronicle is probably like comparing the attendance of the Austin Community College intramural football team w/ the attendance of this week's Red River Rivalry.

/sad but true

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.
