The Right Goes Ballistic. Again

by: Libby Shaw

Fri Sep 04, 2009 at 04:34 PM CDT

Gee whiz.   I sure hope, for their own sorry sakes, right wing Republicans have decent health care coverage.  I mean, at the rate at which they are blowing fuses and blood vessels over literally everything proposed by President Obama, good health care coverage sure is necessary for one's survival in avoiding and overcoming strokes and heart attacks.

OK, so the latest hysteria emanating from the right has to do with a speech President Obama will make to school children about staying in school, working hard to achieve good grades and taking personal responsibility for one's actions.  This should be music to a parent's ears, especially in Texas where we have the highest number of school dropouts and our schools rank second to last nationwide.

But oh no, au contraire and God forbid, should a child work hard to stay in school, earn top notch grades, graduate with honors and gain acceptance in a top tier university.

It seems that the right has plenty of problems with staying in school, at least according to comments posted by on-line readers of the The Houston Chronicle.

Some object to Obama speech to students

According to the right President Obama will "indoctrinate" and "brain wash" students.

About?

Getting good grades?   Taking responsibility?

No one howled when President G.W. Bush read to school children on the day our nation was horribly and ruthlessly attacked.

Nick Anderson, the Houston Chronicle, 9/3/09.

And where were these very same wingnuts when  President George H.W. Bush spoke to school children at the eve of his campaign in 1992?

I guess a little ol' indoctrination and spin is harmless when it comes from a really rich white guy.

And where were conservatives when President Reagan preached the tax cut gospel to students?

Today, to a degree never before seen in human history, one nation, the United States, has become the model to be followed and imitated by the rest of the world. But America's world leadership goes well beyond the tide toward democracy. We also find that more countries than ever before are following America's revolutionary economic message of free enterprise, low taxes, and open world trade. These days, whenever I see foreign leaders, they tell me about their plans for reducing taxes, and other economic reforms that they are using, copying what we have done here in our country.

I wonder if they realize that this vision of economic freedom, the freedom to work, to create and produce, to own and use property without the interference of the state, was central to the American Revolution, when the American colonists rebelled against a whole web of economic restrictions, taxes and barriers to free trade. The message at the Boston Tea Party -- have you studied yet in history about the Boston Tea Party, where because of a tax they went down and dumped the tea in the Harbor. Well, that was America's original tax revolt, and it was the fruits of our labor -- it belonged to us and not to the state. And that truth is fundamental to both liberty and prosperity.

We all know where Uncle Ronnie's voodoo economic notion of unregulated free trade, and deregulated free markets have led us. Ronnie and good ol' boy and former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm visited the final death knell of economic collapse upon us when Phil the Whiner smuggled in a 200+ page bill that made it illegal, yes illegal,  to regulate the very financial instruments that led our ultimate ruin.

But Uncle Ronnie did have a really good and convincing speech writer.  And Reagan was a very gifted actor.  And now we know from what source the right is dredging up the orchestrated tea parties.

FOX News predictably jumped on board and ran with the Obama indoctrination meme.

Our esteemed Governor Secession did not miss an opportunity to join into the fray, telling a reporter for the Houston Chronicle that he is disturbed by Obama's talk with school children.

Dude, I think it is disturbing that you are disturbed.

We know it is the silly season of Elections in Texas because Princess Sparkle Pony also weighed in with her "concern."  Hutchison's concern is very interesting indeed.  Where was rubber stamping Kay Bailey's concern when W. lied us into Iraq?  Was Kay asleep when Phil The Whining Gramm worked 24/7/365 to shatter the very foundation of our economy?  Good ol' boy Phil pulled off his coup at 7:00 p.m. in the evening before Congress recessed for Christmas, by the way.

These people know no shame.  They don't do responsibility.

Ok, so I am going to call it as I see it.

The right's problem with President Obama's speech has everything to do with not so thinly veiled racism.

Period.

So, other than hate, fear, and lies, what other principles do Republicans, embrace? Money is not a principle, by the way.

Whoops!  I had almost forgotten about right wing stoopidity.

Really, really scary (3.00 / 1)
So, if Governor Rick Perry decides to give a pep talk to Texas school children about education...will they really want to stay in school and succeed? Or will they, for the rest of their lives, strive to secede?

I forgot to mention (3.00 / 1)
HYPOCRISY and batshit crazy.  The right gets an A++ in those areas.

Because if they truly "indoctrinate" (3.00 / 1)
with a white guy, then it's just fine. What happened to the initiative that first President Bush was talking about? America 2000.

9/4/09 Survey USA Poll (3.00 / 1)
from conservative Missouri. But the media frenzy about it...reflects a different story thanks to Fox, Rush, Sean, et al.)

I wonder what our state's polling would show?

Whoops! (3.00 / 1)
I just posted the same poll as you did.  Sorry about that!

A Suvey USA poll shows overwhelming support (0.00 / 0)
for President Obama's speech to school children.  As usual, the righties are out of the mainstream.  Too bad such a small group of ignorant haters gets the lions share of the media coverage.
