Tom Schieffer on Watson Running for Re-Election

by: Matt Glazer

Fri Aug 14, 2009 at 01:39 PM CDT

With Kirk Watson's announcement, Tom Schieffer maintains his standing as the front runner to be the Democratic Nominee for Governor.

The Schieffer campaign released the following statement on Watson's decision.

I welcome Senator Watson's statement today. He would have been a formidable opponent in the Democratic primary. I'm glad he has decided to run for reelection because we need men and  women of his character and capability in the Texas Senate. Senator Watson has much to contribute to the future of Texas, and I look forward to working with him in the months and years ahead.

Schieffer "maintains his standing" as front runner? (3.00 / 1)
Slipping into fiction writing...

Unless there's a poll I've missed, there's absolutely nothing to back that up except for various fantasies belonging to various persons.

Not so much fantasy.... (0.00 / 0)
Actually, in the current field on active and confirmed candidates (and not rumor of candidacy), Tom Schieffer has been and still is the front runner in money, endorsements, and campaign activity.

That may have easily changed if Kirk or Leticia jumped in, but alas, they are not....

Let's keep it civil (0.00 / 0)
We may have differing opinions, and that's fine, but the "fiction" and "fantasy" lines don't strike me as constructive.  The goal is to win in November, and it would be nice to put Will Rogers' infamous quip to rest one of these years (see http://www.brainyquote.com/quo...

Tom Schieffer's campaign is far in front in terms of infrastructure, fundraising, and endorsements (with names like Rep. Senfronia Thompson, Speaker Pete Laney, Judge Gilberto Hinojosa, and Ambassador Lyndon Olsen at the top of the list; see http://www.tomfortexas.com/tea...

The polls show one thing: it is very early in the process and many Democrats are evaluating the candidates and making up their minds.

Tom is busy criss-crossing the state, listening to concerned Texans and giving voice to his message of education reform as the key to our Texas' success and prosperity.
