TX-Gov: Rick Perry up 12 in Another Poll (Updated Chart of all TX-Gov Polls)

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Thu Jul 09, 2009 at 09:36 AM CDT

From Jason Embry's "First Reading" blog over at the Austin American-Statesman, titled, "UT poll says Perry 12 points up on Hutchison":

Gov. Rick Perry leads U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison by 12 points among voters who say they intend to vote in the Republican primary next March, according to an online poll that the University of Texas at Austin will release today.

[...]

The poll — like others in recent weeks — shows a significant surge for Perry over the last several months. Consider that in the same poll released in March, Hutchison led 37 percent to 29 percent. At least for now, these numbers indicate that Perry’s aggressive anti-Washington stance in recent months has helped him considerably with GOP voters, and while Hutchison’s limited public engagement in the race has not.

Let's add this to the chart from yesterday's post -- Rick Perry (aka Governor Cyborg) Raises $4.2 Million in 9 Days:

TX-Gov Poll Tracking: Rick Perry vs. Kay Bailey Hutchison

I'm just going to repeat what I said yesterday:

Rick Perry will continue to succeed -- both financially and in the polls, despite his massive failures -- in a Republican primary race, because the Republican base celebrates and desires the failure of government.

So given today's announcement -- no, I'm not surprised. Rick Perry will tour the state with Sarah Palin, appear daily on Rush Limbaugh radio, and actively shred public education, health care, and transportation policies in order to win the Republican primary. That's what he is programmed to do.

Rick Perry is a cyborg. And right now, he's winning this primary.

just confirms what was posted this am below. (0.00 / 0)
Kay Bailey Hutchison has thrown away any chance to win this thing.  She is the Neville Chamberlin of the befuddled moderates.  Name one positive message she has given to vote for her?

KBH a Moderate? (5.00 / 1)
By most of the ratings by conservative organizations, KBH is staunchly conservative. It's only by comparison with Governor Goodhair and his crowd that she might appear to be moderate. Of course, by those standards, George H. W. Bush would be a flaming radical socialist. In short, I fail to see what moderates and liberals have to gain by supporting her. She is, indeed, the lesser of the evils, but not by much.

One thing to note (0.00 / 0)
There is still a large swath of "undecided" voters (in the theoretical world of these polls) which, at least by looking at the numbers, would appear to be disaffected Hutchison supporters. Of that population of Republicans, I guess the question would have to be: is it harder or easier for those undecideds to return to Hutchison or to officially jump on the Rick Perry crazy train.

always hard to tell (0.00 / 0)
But having seen folks jump off KBH why would they join back up with her.  Undecideds usually go with either the winner or spilt along the same percentages and of  course stay home.

Hutchison: 55%
Perry: 31%

Baselice (0.00 / 0)
Also, doesn't the Baselice show Hutchison leading 45-39, not Perry leading 43-42?

[ Parent ]
Depends on which version (0.00 / 0)
The 43-42 is with the titles of the elected officials; the other one is without. I chose to highlight the one with titles (as did Baselice in their release), since each will be strongly associated with their respective job position.

They both have validity (0.00 / 0)
It's probably somewhere in between.  Yes, the campaign will have titles.  Then again, the ballot won't.  The strength of the campaigning on both sides will probably lead to whether the actual outcome is decided more as if with titles or without.  And with two of the most skilled politicians in the state (although cowardly or poor in policy making), I expect the campaigning to be high-octane.

Pretty far back, but that will work.
