Buried away at the end of Statesman reporter Gardner Selby's piece on Tom Schieffer's announcement was a quote from former Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle that he's looking at running statewide, including the Governor's race.

Former Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle said Wednesday he is “leaning more toward running for governor. I'm just trying to figure out where I can make the greatest contribution,” he said.

  1. Although
I kinda wish he'd run for AG. But let me have the popcorn concession for a Perry-Earle duel.

  2. Earle definitely could do some good as AG or Lt. Gov.
a post Hutchison hasn't expressed interest in.

As a Democrat the idea of a Governor Ronnie Earle would thrill me right down to my toes. As a pragmatic Texas voter, if we could get him in the Senate instead of “Big John” Cornyn, what a coup!!

Yet if as he says he truly wants to do the most good, AG or Lt. Gov. would be a better step (especially a great first step into the sometimes excessively nasty arena that is Texas politics).
