| Seems that John Cornyn and Pete Sessions are continuing their special brand of Republican leadership in D.C. as only the inept Texas Republicans can. This time, they've managed to tick off Sarah Palin and embarrass themselves in the national media in a squabble reminiscent of junior high school in its maturity and professionalism. Good job, guys!
See, Cornyn and Sessions, chairs of the NRSC and NRCC, respectively, had to put together a fundraising dinner for their dwindling party. Needing a keynote speaker who could bring in the big bucks, they called one Republican they can be sure has the wardrobe for the event, ex-Vice Presidential candidate, current Governor of Alaska, and serial winker-atcha, Sarah Palin.
And thus begins the drama.
From The Hill:
Those involved in planning the dinner told The Hill that Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), head of the NRSC, grew nervous about Palin's staff's unwillingness to commit the governor to attending. As the time to print invitations approached, the two committees turned instead to a new keynoter, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).
Aha, time to bring in a real Republican leader, racist Twitter comments and all. Now, apparently Newt did his job, raised some money, and all was good. Until Sarah Palin found out she had been dis-invited! Oh snap!
The Hill continues:
Cornyn hoped to reach a deal that would allow Palin to make an appearance on stage to speak. Cornyn even offered Palin a seat at his table.
This time, it was NRCC head Rep. Pete Sessions (Texas) who balked, according to a source outside the NRCC but involved in planning the dinner.
So they re-invited her! But then they were worried she'd overshadow Gingrich. So they re-un-invited her! But now WaPo says she is for sure now definitely going.
I just hope that the Alaskan Wolf-Assassin and Gingrich don't show up wearing the same outfit, or Sarah herself might just kick Texas out of the union after all of this junior-high-league drama.
Actually, I take that back. I saw a lemonade stand run by a bunch of pre-teens this weekend that was more professional than these Republican clowns. And probably a better fundraising effort, to boot. |
