An Ode to Battleground Texas and Wendy Davis Knocking 55,559 Doors in One Weekend

by: Katherine Haenschen

What a weekend.

Battleground Texas and the Wendy Davis campaign set a genuinely ridiculous goal of knocking 48,000 doors this weekend to elect the 48th governor of Texas. For a random weekend almost 7 months from Election Day, that would be a tall feat. (I thought they were kind of a little bit nuts when they told me.)

Tall feat or not, they surpassed it.

Volunteers amassed in what seems like every major city and suburban county and knocked 55,559 doors to spread the message about Wendy and this November's election.

The results were simply astounding, and the volunteers and staffers recorded the highlights on Twitter throughout the weekend.

Below the jump, read a poem (yes, a poem) about this weekend's canvass using some marvelous tweets as illustration.

What a weekend for canvassing across the Lone Star State, as Team Wendy and Battleground Texas knocked #48for48!

From Arlington to San Antonio, the volunteers came in scores to go reach out to voters and knock on their doors.

Blockwalking is fun and with a friend it's easy. Some volunteers got a hand from Congressman Marc Veasey!

It didn't matter that it sometimes was raining. They were ready to go thanks to lots of good training!

They walked down in Brownsville and over in Corpus, engaging new voters with deliberate purpose.

To show off their work and prove that they were talking, they tweeted their friends selfies of blockwalking!

They knocked doors in Houston, San Marcos, and Laredo; with parents, or solo -- heck, even in Plano!

Up in Cedar Park, the house was packed; down in Laredo, Jesus got into the act!

Crews all over Harris knocked doors on a mission, while volunteers in Corpus entered field dispositions.

'Twas an incredible feat by the Battleground crew, and if it keeps up.... y'all might just turn Texas blue!
