Texas Republican State Rep. Drew Darby
Republican State Rep. Drew Darby of San Angelo has no regard for the law, apparently. Earlier this month, he tried to bring a gun into a plane cabin with him. And ammo.
Rep. Darby, a rabid voice against gun safety laws, went into police custody at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and a faces a felony charge. He is now out on bail.
Below the jump, read why Rep. Darby may never be allowed to carry a gun in Texas again. If Rep. Darby is convicted of the felony charge, he will be forever ineligible for a concealed carry permit in our state. And that's something we could all be thankful for this holiday season. In a lukewarm statement, the Republican claimed he forgot the gun and ammo were in his bag, and said he regrets the incident.
If the representative had been successful in getting that bag on the plane, anything could have happened. To anyone on that plane, or to the entire plane itself. A gun on a plane is nothing more or less than a gun on a plane.
Rep. Darby doesn't even deserve to have the job he has, let alone a concealed carry permit. His disrespect for the law has already been obvious; this year, the guy introduced a bill nullifying federal gun laws, which is the (il)legal equivalent of trying to void the American flag in Texas. It's insane.
Get the gun out of this man's hands before he does serious damage.
