Yesterday on the steps of Austin City Hall over 50 volunteers turned out to support Enroll America's initiative to educate and inform voters about the new health care opportunities made possible by the Affordable Care Act. City Council Member Mike Martinez welcomed the crowd as well as Ian Davis, the Texas Organizing Director for Get Covered America, and many other local leaders.

Texas has the highest percentage of population of uninsured people in the nation and is dead last when it comes to spending on mental health care. Get Covered America is a national effort, but it is safe to say that it's impact might be the greatest right here in the Lone Star State.

Kickoff events and volunteer efforts were hosted all across the state on Saturday, including the cities of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and McAllen. This campaign's goal is to inform people about the new “health insurance marketplaces” available on October 1st, when one of the first steps of the Affordable Care Act is implemented.
