Bill White Launches New TV Ad "San Antonio"

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Tue Jul 27, 2010 at 02:48 PM CDT

The Bill White campaign launched their latest TV ad, directed specifically at the San Antonio market, where he was born:

From the campaign's press release:

In the ad, Bill White describes growing up in San Antonio as the son of schoolteachers. White's mother and father taught in San Antonio public schools for decades and also taught Sunday school. White's father, a disabled WWII veteran, held down two jobs. Both of White's parents taught Bill and his brother Robert the value of hard work and a good education and taught them that "you have to give more than you take."

A on images, smiling people, shots of White communicating, history.
A+ on Message, direct, forward, bio and plan rolled into one
B- on Audio, I can barely hear White speak, his words run together a bit, and becomes indistinguishable. His last line is the clearest, but still, it's hard to hear. Lacks confidence in voice is how I'd put it.

Good start though.

Only once does it say what White is running for. No images and it's something he says in passing. Need to clear up what he's doing on my tv set.

General reaction would be, "oh this White guy sounds good, what's he doing? Was he running, advocating? I dunno."

I like it! (0.00 / 0)
Very nice feel.  Gives a shout out to hardworking ethics - his parents working hard to provide better opportunities for their kids.

Bill's message is that he's running for Governor because we need to prepare for the future, just like his parents did.

You have to work hard and you have to think about the others.  "Rick Perry is in it for himself".  Bill White is in it for Texas.

That's what I got out of it.

wonder if the campaign (0.00 / 0)
studied his tax return before they added the "you have to give more than you take" line.

It's a Good Ad -- White Moves to Toss Up in WaPo (0.00 / 0)

If White continues to Stress swing voter issues (fiscally sound mayor - worked with all to get things done), and use ads that shows him to be "one of us" he will continue to do well.

Just today the Washington Post changed the Texas Gov race to Toss-Up:

"Texas (Move from Lean Republican to Toss Up): Former Houston Mayor Bill White (D) has more money in the bank than Gov. Rick Perry (R) and polling shows the contest close. It's still Texas in a good Republican year, which should help Perry, but White is running an effective campaign to capitalize on discontent directed at the incumbent."
