Bill White Leading Money Race

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Thu Feb 25, 2010 at 05:01 PM CST

Courtesy of the Rick Perry vs The World blog which you really should go read and make a regular habit of doing so.

KBH
1.1M raised
8M spent
2.3M Cash on Hand

RIck Perry
850K raised
8.8M spent
2.5M CoH

Debra Medina
450K raised
228k spent
291K CoH

Bill White
2.2M raised
2.7M spent
5.4M CoH

Farouk Shami
1.1M raised
5M spent
1M CoH

The fact that Perry and Hutchison have blown through over $8 Million each of their warchests and all that's resulted in is Bill White improving in the head to head polls against both of them is wonderful on so many levels.

Bill White outraised every candidate in both parties. Bill White has more money on hand than every candidate in both parties.

If you didn't think it was a real race before folks, it is now. I can't wait until March 3rd.

And the winner is... (0.00 / 0)
Maybe we should just give the offices to the person who raises the most money and have them donate the money to charitable organizations. In the end, they are all the same as quite a few are finally realizing watching the machinations, and probably self-destruction, of the Democratic Party over health care reform which seems destined to be anything but.  The Republicans tried to form a third party. No doubt the Democrats will as well. And in each case they will continue to elect people who really don't represent the money rather than the people.

Everyone talks about the money and invariably always finds an "enemy" among the other party's candidates but in reality few really look at it all.

Oscar Wyatt used to write $100,000 checks to both parties. He called it hedging his bets.  Not everyone is so open about it. But he's not the only one who believes in hedging the bets.

The Winner (3.00 / 1)
It takes money to advertise in Texas. The point is a Democrat can be competitive this year. The Republicans have controlled
the state and had all of the contributions for way too long.

Absolutely! (0.00 / 0)
It takes money to advertise anywhere and that is what our political process has become. A gigantic advertising campaign. Why I said what I said about even Madison Avenue couldn't come up with a better advertising campaign for Farouk Shami than his running for governor.  He loses, he wins. And I bet his sales increase if they haven't already.

As for who ends up in the Governor's Mansion in November, well, the sponsors of the advertising win either way. And don't believe they don't.

Of course if he wins and follows his own example when he was first elected mayor, Bill White will just have a "Second Chance" fundraiser so that those who still want to buy a piece of the Governor's Mansion still have the opportunity to.

Personally I am more worried about the impact of invasive species on our environment and so am more worried about the impact of Ken Starr at Baylor than I am by who ends up in the Governor's Mansion.

Agree with Baby Snooks on this (0.00 / 0)
Oscar Wyatt is an honest old thief. Why he has not been jailed before 2007 for his past business practices is beyond me.

I still remember when he reneged on his contract for supplying natural gas to Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christie in 1972. That helped create the hysteria to pass a bond election in 1973 to fund both the South Texas Nuclear Power Plant and Fayette Coal Plant in the same bond election in Austin. The coal plant passed with 77% of vote and STNP narrowly passed by about 700 votes.

Now some in Austin want to close down and/or sale our share of the the coal plant. While some, who at the time that were against all nuclear power plants, are now considering it as a viable option along with wind and solar. Go figure.

Well (0.00 / 0)
That is interesting news. Dare I hope?

Best chance in many a year (0.00 / 0)
KBH and Perry are blowing through 8 million + each, bombarding Texans with attack ads. Thanks to Debra Medina, there may even be a Republican run off, which will cost millions more. Meanwhile, Bill White can run nice biography ads defining himself to the voters while KBH and Perry shred each other.  Best chance we've had in many a year!

That is exactly what I have been thinking. (0.00 / 0)
Bill White may benefit from the fracturing of the Republican Party. After an expensive run off with more negative ads I don't see them kissing and making up. Good news for Texas not just Democrats, if we elect him.
I haven't been linking to my website because I haven't updated it to 2010 but the archives are still there and I'm running against Wayne Christian (in Texas House District 9) the winner of Texas Monthly's Worst Legislator Award. It's a badge of honor to him because it's such a liberal publication. He really does say things like this. I however see it on many of my Republican friend's coffee tables. Today is the last day of early voting. Please go to the polls Tuesday if you haven't voted already.

I hope enthusiams is a better guage of success than cash (0.00 / 0)
but I'm not going to take a second mortgage on my house to bet on that hope.

Way to go Farouk! (0.00 / 0)
Of course BOR which hates Shami would never mention it, but glad to see he raised at least as much money and has more cash on hand than each of the Republicans too.

Correction - I misread (0.00 / 0)
Sorry, I misread, the post does not show that Farouk Shami has more cash on hand than Perry or Hutchison.

However, I don't think it's in dispute that BOR tends to focus on negative and not positive news when it comes to Shami, and I am glad that unlike White who has been coasting Shami has run a really active primary campaign which actually encourages people to vote so that's why he's been spending money.  I am glad that White has stockpiled some cash, but hope he's not going to keep on stockpiling until October or something.

Yeah... (3.00 / 1)
Farouk didn't raise that, it's over 95% personal loans. And it's spent on ads.

BOR doesn't have to do anything, Shami does it to himself (5.00 / 2)
Don't blame BOR on Shami's meltdown. He brought it on himself. It's been one of the most poorly run campaigns I've seen since Clayton Williams. If Shami or his personal PR hacks could keep their mouths shut he might have had a chance in this race.

I can see Vince's frustration in trying to work with Shami and his personal team. Guitierrez and Diaz were way out of their league and should have relied on someone with political knowledge to run the message. Instead they overran the message with really bad positions.

Personally I think he stayed in this race for personal marketing gain. Heck, you can't buy this kind of marketing in Texas these days. Now he's more of a household name than ever. I can see his hair care business really accelerating after the election. Business genius if you ask me but not political genius.
