Austin Early Voting Starts Today

By Byron LaMasters

Today is the first day to vote in the Austin City Council Place 3 run-off between Margot Clarke and Jennifer Kim.

Early vote locations here.

I voted just about an hour ago, and I think I'll just keep yall guessing as to who I voted for. I do not intend to issue a personal endorsement in this race. I am a member of four local clubs. Of them, the Central Austin Democrats, Austin Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus and the Austin Stonewall Democrats have endorsed Margot Clarke. The University Democrats have endorsed Jennifer Kim.

I don't think it will come as a surprise to anyone that I'll be voting for Jennifer Kim.

Margot will win the run-off in a big way. 40% versus 27% is simply too big a margin for Jennifer to overcome. If she could have massively outspent Margot, Jennifer might have had a chance, but Margot's $91,000 windfall puts paid to that possibility. Combined with the fact that Margot has a vastly-better field team than Jennifer, this race is a no-brainer.

Has anyone else gotten a bunch of annoying "vote for Margot Clarke" phone calls from a call center with a 212 area code? Why would she be using a Manhattan company to make these calls?

I've gotten annoying calls from both sides.

What is this organization "Desis of Austin" that has endorsed Jennifer Kim?

I received snail-mail spam from Mike Levy listing all the things that are wrong with Austin along with his completely unsupported assertion that voting for Margot Clarke would somehow block the important process of fixing Austin.

You'd think that anybody with that much time and money on his hands could at least come up with at least one plausible reason to not vote for the person he's attacking.

Steve,

Desi is a term used to describe individuals from South Asia (India)
