County Chair Candidate Forum
The DCDP will host a forum for all Chair candidates who wish to attend. The format will be questions and answers with a moderator. Questions which have been solicited from Dallas Democrats will be presented to all of the candidates. Those in attendance will be permitted to write out questions for the candidates, which will be given to the moderator. Each candidate will be asked the same questions. The moderator will be allowed to ask follow-up questions. At the end of questioning, each candidate will be given five minutes to speak.

Parking is free — but limited. When the main lot at Washington and Bryan is filled, there is some more behind the building, and some available on side streets within a block or two.

Several Democratic clubs and organizations have also invited the candidates for County Chair to speak to their meetings. Tell us about others and we’ll post them on the Calendar. Don’t be surprised if they show up at some other meetings as well.

Day of Decision March and Rally

This event will be held on the day that the US Supreme Court issues its decision on marriage equality. Currently this march and rally is scheduled for Thursday June 18, but if the decision is not issued that day, the march and rally will be rescheduled for next week. Read more, sign up, and see any updated date and time at this page:

“At 6 PM, we will gather at Cathedral of Hope (5910 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas 75235) for an inspirational rally, celebration of love, and discussion about what the ruling means for same-gender loving couples, families, people of faith/faith-free people and how the decision compels us moving forward.

“At 7:30 PM, we will march on the sidewalk down Cedar Springs to the Legacy of Love Monument at the Oak Lawn Triangle (Oak Lawn at Cedar Springs). Get your signs and noisemakers ready for this exciting moment where we march in solidarity with one another.

“At 8 PM, we will gather around the Legacy of Love Monument for a festive display of what the ruling means to the LGBTQ community, the people we love, and hear a call to action for what remains ahead.”

Executive Director Stepping Down

DCDP Executive Director Taylor Holden has accepted a position with New Era Colorado, a progressive nonprofit that engages young people in the political process and runs issues-based campaigns, effective July 9.

An interim County Chair to replace Darlene Ewing will likely be elected June 27. It will be the incoming Chair’s decision on how and when they begin the process of filling the executive director position.

“Working with Dallas County Democratic Party volunteers, staff, and elected officials to improve the lives of Texans has been one of the highlights of my life,” said Taylor Holden. “Thank you all for working alongside me and teaching me more about community organizing than I could have imagined. You made Dallas home.”
