TX-31: John Carter's Income Disclosure Problem Spoils GOP Tactic

by: wcnews

Rep. John Carter's $300 thousand income disclosure problem might impair the House Republican leadership's plan to paint Democrats as ethically challenged. The centerpiece of the plan was for Carter to lead the attack against Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY).

As recently as Monday, Politico reported that they hoped to exploit Rangel's dilemma for "maximum political advantage."

Convinced that Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) is on the ropes because of a tangle of ethical issues, House GOP leaders are debating whether to aggressively press for his removal as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee or try to drag out the controversy as long as possible for maximum political advantage.

House GOP leaders tapped Carter to introduce a resolution to strip Rangel of his Ways and Means Committee chairmanship on Oct. 7. Moments after Democrats defeated the resolution, Carter told Politico he wanted another chance.

The Runoff In HD-52, The Same Only Different

by: wcnews

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 00:44 PM CDT

(Cross-posted at Eye On Williamson).

Diana Maldonado will finally find out who her Republican opponent will be in November on April 8th.  Ever since soon-to-be-former Rep. Mike Krusee (R - Round Rock) decided in December to not seek re-election, the choice for his designated Replublican replacement has been up in the air. Four candidates threw their hats in the ring for the GOP nomination.  Now there are two left, insurance man Bryan Daniel and Williamson County Assistant DA Dee Hobbs.  As far as their stances on the issues,  (see here, here and here), there are few differences between the two.

The continued shameful act of detaining mother's and children, that the Williamson County Commissioner's Court has ratified for the low, low price of $1/inmate/day, is drawing international scorn and ridicule.  This Saturday Vigil X will be held at the T. Don Hutto family lock up in conjunction with International Refugee Day.  Amnesty International, Children and Families for Humane Treatment Alliance (CATHTA) along with many other cosponsors are involved:

Sen. Carona Jilts Toll Road Opposition

by: wcnews

Thu Mar 22, 2007 at 00:00 PM CDT

(With Mr. TTC (Mike Krusee) chairing the Transportation Committee, does good policy have a chance? - promoted by Matt Glazer)

(Cross-posted at Eye On Williamson).
"Within thirty years' time, under existing comprehensive development agreements, we'll bring free roads in this state to a condition of ruin."

-Sen. Carona, December 2006

[...]

"I don't intend to move it," (In reference to the toll road moratorium bill in his committee).

-Sen. Carona, March 2007

From the today's article it seems that Sen. Carona is doing this because he was pressured by his local pro-toll officials.  They have been able to get Sen. Carona to buy the concept that waiting two years to make sure all of this is done correctly and the damage that would do to transportation in his local area is worse than, in his words, "..bring(ing) free roads in this state to a condition of ruin."

Sal's pissed and for good reason.  CorridorWatch is not happy either and that's totally understandable.

KNCT censors Mary Beth Harrell on NOW

by: wcnews

Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 11:35 AM CST

(I can't believe this. - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

From Al Stanley's diary on DailyKos, we have learned that last night's episode of NOW was blacked out on KNCT, the PBS affiliate serving the community surrounding Fort Hood. The episode featured a report portraying "the contrast between (Rep. John) Carter's staunch support of the war and the fact that (Democratic challenger Mary Beth) Harrell has enjoyed much acceptance in the Ft. Hood community despite questioning the war's premise and execution."

(I was just about to write a post on this, and look what I find in the Journals... - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Link to photo-op, Congressman Carter Stands By His Man.

"Carter took time out of his busy schedule to show up one more time to defend and support Travis County Defendant, Tom Delay, but Carter could not find the time to come back to his own district to visit the veterans at the VA hospital in Temple for their Valentine's Day tribute to the vets.
