Appearing on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos, George Will indicated that there are several meanings of the Bush Doctrine, and although Sarah Palin chose none of those that he mentioned, Will maintained that her response to Charles Gibson's question was appropriate. However, in an article entitled "The Bush Doctrine at Risk" on June 22, 2003, this is what George W. Will said about the Bush Doctrine:
And overshadowing the military achievement is the failure -- so far -- to find, or explain the absence of, weapons of mass destruction that were the necessary and sufficient justification for preemptive war. The doctrine of preemption -- the core of the president's foreign policy -- is in jeopardy.
http://www.jewishworldreview.c... That is exactly what the Bush Doctrine means and has meant, and Governor Palin did not know what it meant. Check any foreign policy publication that is credible. By the way, Wikipedia is not a credible source.
The UT-Austin Government Department released the cross tabs of a July poll on public opinion in Texas. Among the more interesting results is that Democratic Party identifiers outnumber Republican Party identifiers by five percentage points, Dem 35%, Rep 30%. In 2003, according to all Gallup Polls in Texas, Republican Party identifiers outnumbered Democratic Party identifiers 41% to 24%. By 2007, the results favored Republican Party identifiers 33% to 28%. There are also interesting results in policy positions by party identification, ethnicity, income, education, etc. The UT-Austin Government Department has provided a useful tool to researchers of Texas politics and government. Thanks to James Henson and Daron Shaw for their work.
