For the past few weekends, I have been working with the Travis County Democratic Party registering voters and doing visibility on South Congress Avenue. Part of the visibility work I was doing was doing was merchandising Obama Stuff for visibility. The wonderful owners of Uncommon Objects on South Congress had given us permission to set up a table in front of their shop. The owners and staff are great supporters and were extremely helpful. I wish I could say the same for Barbara.
October 6th is the last day to register voters for the 2008 elections. It is time for everyone to get involved and make a difference. Anyone in Texas can be sworn in as a deputy voter registrar and register voters. All you have to do is go to your county Tax Assessor office and be sworn in. Voter registration is at an all time high across the nation but we can do better with your help.
Follow me below the fold to find out all the ways you can help register voters and help make this the most historic election in Texas history.
Netroots Nation is coming to Austin next month and the only way I will be able to attend is if I win one of the scholarships being offered by Democracy for America. I am asking all my readers and blogging friends to help me make a dream come true.
They have announced at Democracy for America that one scholarship will be awarded solely on the number of grass roots supporters. I have 33 supporters so far but I know with the help of the Burnt Orange Readers I can make it to Netroots Nation.
Students across America will attend class on Friday and not say a word. This silent protest is to bring attention to the desperate need for anti-bullying laws across the nation to protect students from their peers and their teachers.
The purpose of Day of Silence is to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment, and effective responses.
o The goal of Day of Silence is to make schools safer for all students, regardless of sexual orientation
and gender identity/expression.
Four out of five LGBT students experience harassment at school.
o Students across the country participate in Day of Silence to bring attention to this problem,
let students who experience bullying know they are not alone,
and ask schools to take action to address the problem.

(It appears we have a candidate for SDEC committeeman from SD 14. Other candidates I am aware of at this time are Susan Shelton for SD 14 committeewoman and TCDP assistant director Garry Brown. I'm sure there will be others - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)
This election year is one of the most exciting ones I have ever seen in my 41 years of being involved in politics and civil rights. There is all the buzz about the presidential campaigns, Texas being in play for the first time in decades and exciting races such as Rick Noriega for Senate and all the Texas Legislative races.
Well, there are another set of elections that will take place in June at the Texas Democratic Party Convention and I have decided to throw my hat into the ring.
It has come to my attention that a Democratic County Chairperson called and asked an Obama delegate to switch to at large so they could move an Alternate delegate up. Depending on the make up of the alternate pool in any county or precinct, there is no guarantee that the alternate moved up to take a delegate's place would have the same presidential preference. This is called playing a numbers game and is deplorable.
(This is a great post from Populista originaly posted at Booman Tribune)
There is still a lot more work to do if we want to get Barack Obama elected. But if we want to truly change this country we need to do more then that. We need to build strong Democratic majority in the House and Senate committed to passing Obama's agenda of change. In short we need an Obamajority.
So I e-mailed a few people who had helped out with the Obamathon and came up with the idea for a fundraising drive like the Obamathon but for congressional candidates who will help build a Obamajority. Using the amazing ActBlue we have set up a fundraising page to build The New Obamajority. To start out it features three great candidates. Rick Noriega, Darcy Burner and Patrick Murphy. More will be added as time goes on (suggestions are welcome at obamathon (AT) gmail (DOT) com) but for now let me introduce you to those three great candidates who will help build an Obamajority.
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Brian Thompson last night and speaking with him at some length about his campaign for Texas Legislature House District 46. Brian is articulate and poised but even more importantly, he believes in representing the people of his district in East Austin and Texas. He is not willing to sell his soul to the likes of Tom Craddick as the incumbent-Dawwna Dukes- has.
