Our own Texas Swiftboaters and how we fund them

by: eve

Mon Jan 07, 2008 at 10:39 AM CST

The Nation magazine says the SwiftBoaters who funded the smearing of John Kerry in 2004 are back...in fact they never left...and are preparing to once again fund a smear campaign against Democratic candidates.

This article speaks for itself and please take a few moments to read it.

Bob Perry, who, along with T Boone Pickens and Harold Simmons, provides the big bucks to the SwiftBoat campaign, spends 10's of millions of dollars funding reactionary politicians. He gets those dollars from home buyers in  Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and McAllen,  one dollar at a time, one house or townhouse at a time....people who work hard for that money and ironically wind up helping to fund a political paradigm that promotes a burdensome health care system, denies us all clean air and a sustainable environment, promotes tragic, unnecessary, $trillion dollar wars and fails to protect victims of natural disasters, like Katrina.

One's home, whether an efficiency apartment or a large house, is one's sanctuary. And it's very sad when people who work hard to pay for their home wind up contributing funds to vicious SwiftBoat attacks intended to support candidates and policies which undermine their well being and security.

Is 2008 about Global Warming or the Iraq War? Why Wes Clark solves both.

http://www.dailykos....

Global Warming and the Iraq War have the same root cause: powerful corporate leaders telling the White House and Congress how to run the country. Global Warming and the Iraq war are twin failures of neoliberal/neoconservative politics.

The trouble starts when the man or woman sitting in the White House meets behind closed doors with the head of General Motors or Exxon or whomever to decide for 300 million people how to use our tax dollars.

This disturbing 1998 Guardian piece http://www.guardian..... by Greg Palast on the U.S. government's role in the 1972 overthrow of Chile's President Salvadore Allende describes the financial interests of large U.S. based multinationals in the Chilean economy. The fingerprints of giant corporations on U.S. policy decisions aren't always easy to spot but then along came George W. Bush to paint a clear picture for us.

Why Bob Gammage makes all the difference

by: eve

What's happening in Texas should be seen in the context of what's going on in Washington.
Making a difference in Texas means turning the tide against the Bush/Cheney/Rove machine in Washington -authoritarian to a fault and at the same time incompetent -driving us into a financial ditch, failing to cope with serious problems such as Hurricane Katrina that devastated the Gulf Coast, putting the country and our soldiers at risk in an unnecessary war, soiling our reputation in the eyes of the world. All the while allowing special interests to dictate our priorities.
