Obama Says He Will VETO Payroll Tax Legislation if Keystone XL Attached

by: chris wilson

Wed Dec 07, 2011 at 04:09 PM CST

President Obama said he will VETO Payroll Tax Legislation if Republicans insist on attaching the Keystone XL to this vital legislation.  Republicans have no problem trying to push TransCanada's BOGUS job claims yet they sure have a problem supporting President Obama's Jobs Bills that benefit Americans irregardless of their political affiliation.

From today's joint press conference with President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Harper:  "If the payroll tax cut is attached to a whole bunch of extraneous issues, then it's not something that I'm going to accept."

Thank you President Obama!

UT Austin Campus Environmental Center Against the Keystone XL Pipeline

Join the University of Texas at Austin Campus Environmental Center in opposing the Keystone XL Pipeline:

September 28, 2011

State Department holds hearing on Keystone Pipeline

Time: 3:30-8 p.m.
Description:
State Department holds hearing on Keystone pipeline

The State Department holds a hearing on the proposed and controversial Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring tar sand oil from Alberta, Canada, to the Texas Gulf Coast. Join the Campus Environmental Center in opposing this pipeline.

The extraction process would destroy pristine boreal forest the size of England. The pipeline is expected to average 91 spills over the next 50 years. The refinement of this oil would further pollute Texas' most polluted city, Houston. Finally, the project would raise the oil and gas industry's total greenhouse gas emissions by one-third.

URGENT NEED Central Texas Phonebankers to find 500 Texans to send to Battleground States

by: chris wilson

Tue Sep 16, 2008 at 08:14 AM CDT

Now is the time, more than any other for YOU to make a difference in this tight election.

Obama for America  URGENTLY needs phone banking volunteers from Central Texas to make calls to fellow Central Texan Obama Supporters and ask if they are available to go to a battleground state for 5 weeks for the Obama for America Campaign.  Barack Obama and Joe Biden are  asking Texans to find 500 Texans that can go to the battleground states as FIELD ORGANIZERS by September 29th!

Most Texas volunteers will be going to either NM, CO or Florida.  They will need to go to Camp Obama before they leave for a battleground state.  The final two Camp Obama sessions are scheduled for September 20-21 and 27-28 right here in Austin.  All expenses will be paid by the volunteer, although lodging is provided and typically includes breakfast.  The local field offices will also provide some food.  Transportation in many cases will be donated by Obama supporters.  A web site for free/cheap airline tickets follows: http://www.travelforchange.org or call 650.353.1018 .

If you are interested in helping with these calls then please send Andy Balinsky an email @ balinsky@gmail.com with your name, email, and phone number so that he can assign you an account to access the virtual phonebank for this project.  You can call right from home, from the Coordinated campaign Offices and from the 620 Democratic Office.  Andy  will also put you in touch with Starshine Nolan, Obama For America   Central Texas Field Organizer.

This is something we can all do to help OBAMA & BIDEN  win!

Please forward this URGENT REQUEST  to all of your OBAMA contacts.

Thanks so much!

Chris Wilson

Don't Let any POA/HOA Tell You to Take Down Your Campaign Signs

by: chris wilson

Mon Sep 15, 2008 at 00:07 AM CDT

Democrats all over Travis Co & TX  are being hassled by their HOA's/ POA's etc and being told they cannot have Campaign signs in their yards.  State Property Code allows it 90 days before and up to 10 days after an election.
Texas Property Code 202.009

§ 202.009.  REGULATION OF DISPLAY OF POLITICAL SIGNS[0].

(a)  Except as otherwise provided by this section, a property

owners' association may not enforce or adopt a restrictive covenant

that prohibits a property owner from displaying on the owner's

property one or more signs[0] advertising a political candidate or

ballot item for an election:

             (1)  on or after the 90th day before the date of the

election to which the sign[0] relates; or

             (2)  before the 10th day after that election date.

      (b)  This section does not prohibit the enforcement or

adoption of a covenant that:

             (1)  requires a sign[0] to be ground-mounted; or

             (2)  limits a property owner to displaying only one

sign[0] for each candidate or ballot item.

      (c)  This section does not prohibit the enforcement or

adoption of a covenant that prohibits a sign[0] that:

             (1)  contains roofing material, siding, paving

materials, flora, one or more balloons or lights, or any other

similar building, landscaping, or nonstandard decorative

component;

             (2)  is attached in any way to plant material, a traffic

control device, a light, a trailer, a vehicle, or any other existing

structure or object;

             (3)  includes the painting of architectural surfaces;

             (4)  threatens the public health or safety;

             (5)  is larger than four feet by six feet;

             (6)  violates a law;

             (7)  contains language, graphics, or any display that

would be offensive to the ordinary person; or

             (8)  is accompanied by music or other sounds or by

streamers or is otherwise distracting to motorists.

      (d)  A property owners' association may remove a sign[0]

displayed in violation of a restrictive covenant permitted by this

section.

Controversy in Denver Texas Hispanic Delegates RIGHTFULLY Upset

by: chris wilson

Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 08:42 AM CDT

Austin media is reporting that there is a serious controversy in the Texas delegation because two Hispanic delegates that did not show up to Denver  were replaced with two non-Hispanic alternates moved up to delegates.

Story and video available on line @ :  http://news8austin.com/content...

This unfortunate and unfair situation needs to be fixed by changing the TDP rules such that any time a  delegate is replaced they be replaced by the same ethnic group alternate.  This would allow for the original wishes of the SD caucus elections to be honored. I go one step further and say they should also  be of the same gender.

Stricter rules are necessary to protect the will of the people. In my opinion it is not up to the party to decide which alternate gets to replace a delegate.  TDP needs complete transparency in this process or it will loose supporters like it did after the delegate at large "selection" process FIASCO at the 2008 State Convention.

I suggest that this matter be brought up by the affected parties at the  Advisory Committee on the Texas Democratic Party Convention/Caucus System  hearings that will be held all over Texas, hearing dates and locations are available @ http://www.txdemocrats.org/355 .  Testimony can also be submitted via email
testimony@txdemocrats.org. The Austin hearing will be held on November 14, 2008.

It is up to the GRASSROOTS Democratic activists to make sure these changes are implemented.

I am co-chairing a sub committee on the county authority issue for the Travis County Democratic Issues/Policy Meetup Group.

So if you are interested in working on this issue with the team please email me you name and contact information.

This will be a vital issue in the Valinda Bolton and Karen Huber races and in the next Legislative Session.

Please make calls for the Valinda Bolton Campaign

by: chris wilson

Mon Jul 14, 2008 at 10:59 PM CDT

Folks,

The Valinda Bolton Campaign is ready for us to make phonecalls off the VAN and better yet we have options you can either call from the  Coordinated Campaign Office or from home!

I went down to the coordinated Campaign today and the team kicked off  the phonebanking.

Please contact Kate Morrow  of the Bolton Campaign to get the details:

kateamorrow@gmail.com

There is a script for the phone call and it includes 4 simple questions:

President Obama or McCain or undecided
State Rep 47 Bolton or Keel or Hultgreen or undecided
County Commissioner Precinct 3 Huber or Daugherty or undecided
Voting trends Democratic, sometimes Democratic, Republican, sometimes republican.

All of the information comes up on the screen and then is entered on the screen and saved to the database familiar to those of you that made phonecalls for the Obama Campaign.

Regards,

Chris Wilson
