Now that we've all survived, more or less, the Democratic Presidential Primary and the Texas State Democratic Convention time to take stock and prepare for the run up to the general election.
For Texas Kaos, that includes filling some additional front page slots to flesh out our coverage of Texas news and politics more fully. We're looking in particular for bloggers in rural Texas, San Antonio and El Paso. Also, Latino, African and Asian-American writers may consider themselves actively being recruited.
(I would have written this since I'm DFT's webmaster, but I see that it's already been blogged! I'm promoting this to share the news, not to take a side as I've abstained from taking part in this poll other than handling the technical portions of it to fulfill my duties to DFT. - promoted by KT)
You have spoken loud and clear. With overwhelming support from all over the State, Rick Noriega is the stand-out choice of the grassroots to face John Cornyn in the race for the U.S. Senate. The final results are:
(A Response to Hugh Stearns from Texas Bloggers... - promoted by Matt Glazer)
As the misshapen priorities displayed on the Senate floor demonstrated last week, we need more and better Democrats in Congress. We need them representing our progressive "Move On" values.
Rick Noriega is such a Democrat, which is why I got involved in the movement to draft him for the U.S. Senate race against John Cornyn. I hope as you get to know him in the coming months of this campaign you'll agree that he is a fitting successor to the Texas progressive tradition of Barbara Jordan, Ann Richards, and LBJ-with a little Lloyd Bentsen thrown in for good measure.
Let me first start with an apology to our friends across the nation for the disgusting performance of the Junior Senator from Texas.
As noted elsewhere, it WAS pure performance-political theatre of the farce genre.
You might be able to imagine what Rick Noriega, Afghanistan vet and current Lt. Col in the Texas National Guard thought of that display, but Rick is about actions, not just words. Follow me on the flip for his call to action.
Join us for this week's edition of Meet the Bloggers as we discuss the importance of early fundraising to a campaign. We'll talk with Stuart O'Neill, a political consultant and podcaster at Politicalinterviews.com. Joining us for the panel discussion segment will be Sheri Welsh, aka Congressional Candidate's Wife at DailyKos and John Laesch, candidate for the nomination in IL14 where former GOP Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert has just announced his retirement from Congress.
We'll also have the 50 State Blog Roundup segment, anchored by Texas Kaos blogger Boadicea. Sponsored by Blue Indiana and Texas Kaos, the 50 State Blog Roundup is a podcast version of the news shared from the members of the 50 State Blog Project every week on participating blogs. Featured blogs from the Roundup this week include:
Yesterday marked the one month point of the Texas Bloggers drive for 800 participants on board the Noriega Express to give Texas at least one U.S. Senator who won't embarass us every time he opens his mouth.
A lot has happened in that month, and it could not have happened without YOU.
With a hat tip to our friends in the Nutmeg State who blazed this trail with Ned Lamont last year, follow me on the flip to see what a Lone Star movement looks like...
Kuff mentioned this yesterday, and I thought it was a great idea.
Well, if Karl Rove is coming back to Texas, I think the least we can do is to make him feel welcome once he's here. I think justice would never be more poetic if Rove were to return to Texas in time to see it turn blue. So, in the spirit of helping to bring that about, why not make a donation to Rick Noriega. Surely nothing would make Karl Rove feel more warmly received than that.
Clearly, great minds think alike, because Christy at FDL has the same thought.
Join us live at 12 noon EDT for Meet the Bloggers! This week we'll be interviewing blogger and author Dr. RJ Hillhouse, a Fullbright scholar who blogs about the outsourcing of the intelligence community to private contractors who has written a fictional thriller based on current realities related to the outsourcing of our nation's core national security functions. We'll be joined on the guest blogger panel by Trey McAtee of McBlogger.com and Jerame Davis of Bilerico Project.

Overnight we broke 300 contributors on Act Blue for the Rick Noriega campaign.
And that's before the Blue America chat this afternoon at Firedoglake (2 p.m. EDT, 1 p.m. CDT, and 11 a.m. Pacific)
Please come by if you have some time. Ask Rick a question or two, and let's show the national netroots there are a lot more Texans like Rick Noriega than like John Cornyn.
(We support our fellow bloggers and their right to free speech. After years of great work on their own site, they both were rightfully hired for an '08 Presidential campaign. Instead of being asked to clarify their opinions they received hate mail and personally attacked. Blogging is hard and we live in the public eye. Amanda and Melissa have stood up for their right to express themselves and we are happy to support them in anyway we can. This post is the simplest way Burnt Orange Report can show our solidarity. - promoted by Matt Glazer)
Bill Donohue and his minions of mysogyny have made good use of the Catholic religion and violent hatred of women to further their political agenda.
And make no mistake, their agenda is political. They likely have crossed the line this time, as Jeffrey Feldman notes that as a 501(3)C they aren't supposed to interfere in political campaigns.
