According to the Lone Star Project, the Supreme Court did not issue its opinion on Texas redistricting today. The next most likely days for a decision are Monday, June 26 and Thursday, June 29. The Lone Star Project will continue to monitor the case closely and keep you informed.

I was reading through the stacks of newspapers that I have to as a requirement of my job, when I came upon an article by Doug Cross of the Atlanta Associated Press about an increase in single-sex public schools expected with rule change ( "More single-sex public schools expected with rule change" ). This trend, and trends like it, has been gaining ground in the United States. While it may seem progressive by some, in that it comes at male and female students on "their own terms," it is far from progressive. It is, in fact, a regressive move championed by both conservatives and liberals for different reasons. And in this case, both sides are wrong.

Posters on the UT Livejournal community were less than impressed with a post made by city council candidate Colin Kalmbacher Wednesday.
In attempt to gain supporters from the ranks of University students, Kalmbacher, who is running against incumbent Brewster McCracken, said that Austin is under attack and that McCracken is part of the problem.
"My opponent has given the finger to our civil liberties," Kalmbacher said.
Most of the community's regulars dismissed Kalmbacher as a negative camapigner who used "fear-mongering."
