I have an announcement to make about this race. This "unwinnable" "republican stronghold" race is now very much winnable. Let's all jump on board and make this actually happen!
Have any of you thought about what it must take to get a ZERO on something? Seriously, have any of you managed to obtain a ZERO on an exam? It's not exactly easy to do, at least not if you're trying at all.
See prior diaries about Will Pryor and the 32nd Congressional District here, and here.
I attended an event with Will Pryor last week where I heard him speak about issues that really matter to all of us. It was refreshing to hear somebody actually take on the mantle of leadership by being a genuine leader and speaking from the heart. Will took the time to meet with everyone following the event and talk with them face to face. It was truly a pleasure to talk with the next representative for the 32nd Congressional District.
People sometimes ask me, “why is this race so important to you?” After all, Will’s race isn’t one of the top watched races in the country, and it’s certainly not getting the big-time help from the DCCC.
This race is important to me because we have to break this cycle of learned helplessness in Dallas. Dallas and the 32nd district will be Democratic districts again, the question is simply when.
I recently attended a candidates forum in Dallas to hear Chris Bell and other Texas Democrats talk about their plan for victory. The message was driven home that in order to break the Republican stranglehold on our state, we're going to have to get the word out about these great candidates to our friends, our families, and our co-workers. Not only that, but we're going to have to get them to get the word out to THEIR friends, families, and co-workers.
They called it winning the Amway Way. I think of it as ripples in a pond. Use whatever metaphor you want, it is the basis of any winning political ground game.
I've diaried about Will Pryor before. As many of you know, Will is running against incumbent Pete Sessions (R-Corruption), who was recently named one of the most corrupt members of the 109th Congress by the nonpartisan Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
Needless to say, we desperately need a change in the 32nd district.
(It seems at times that every race in Texas is in play for the Democrats and yet little has been said about the very close race in CD-32 (Martin Frost's old seat). Will Pryor is raising a ton of cash, working hard in this gerrymandered district, and all in a year that has more seats in play than one can easily remember. - promoted by Matt Glazer)
We'll leave no district behind, because no district is hopeless.
I grew up in North Dallas, in an area that is part of the 32nd Congressional District currently represented by Pete Sessions. For my entire life I’ve lived with a sense of learned helplessness that the 32nd is Republican, and that’s just the way it is. I refuse to believe this garbage anymore. I know enough Democrats in this part of Texas…enough people who say the same things that I say about the way things are in the 32nd…that I’m starting to believe that the dark days of regressive politics have an end in sight.
If this optimism is going to have any payoff, the learned helplessness of Dallas Democrats must be shed in favor of a collective togetherness and effort.
Let me introduce you to the 32nd Congressional District in Texas, and Candidate Will Pryor.
