Re: Rush Limbaugh's "apology" to Michael J. Fox
(Rush "attacked" TV ads by Fox supporting stem cell research. being used in campaigns against GOPers who oppose it. Fox was visibly trembling ...Rush said that is not what happens when you have the disease and accused Fox of "acting". He later had to "apologize" when "experts" told him that was exactly what you'd see when it is "acute" (See the story in the Quorum newsclips)
What most folks don't seem to understand that is that it is more than likely that Rush knew he was wrong in the first place and knew he would have to "apologize" later.... but he also knew that would make little difference, as his first statement would already have served its purpose.
It would already be on the "blogs" and the net and e-mail circuit spreading his "truth" among the faithful long before he had to apologize...and, once there, it would spread with little or no chance that the "apology" would ever catch up with the "truth" of his first statement.
Don't kid yourself. The Rushs and the Fox-network types know they can twist the truth just a bit and still accomplish their goal. I sincerely doubt don't do these things by accident. They know the weaknesses the truth faces when it has to try to play 'catch-up.
It would be nice to do a survey asking, "did you hear what Rush said?" and then "did you hear that he later apologized?” I am willing to bet that at least 30 percent (and probably more than 50 percent) will not have heard the "apology”---and that 30—50% will continue spreading Rush's "truth". "Mission Accomplished" for Rush.
These guys all read Orwell's 1984 when they were teenagers. (Just like I did). (They probably also read Ayan Rand and could not see thru her illusions.)
They know how to make the "Ministry of Truth" work for them.... (Go read that section where O'Brien tells Winston how to use language to make black into white and white into green (paraphrase).) . They have just updated to the new media that Orwell didn't know about at the time. The message is that you can make them "believe" what you want them to--if you do it with skill. Back this up with the recent studies showing that ideologues will not even hear a counter-message if it disagrees with their "truth".... and you know what they are up to...
Ever wonder why many of these folks also attack the "scientific method" when it comes to evolution, etc. and other things they hold to be "true”? We can't have those kids learning how to judge facts and reexamine "truths" can we? It might spread to other areas--like politics!
