Ok, Kids, now bear with me hear, but I am going to say something totally crazy:
Susan Combs, a state-wide elected Texas official and Republican, just tried to raise taxes.
http://www.statesman.com/busin...
The article pertains to an attempt to change in practice in which Texans will now have to pay sales tax for items bought via Amazon. In pertinent part:
It would also mean thousands of Texans would have to start paying tax on the electronics, clothes and other items they buy from Amazon - just as they do when they go to the mall or local Walmart.
Such a practice only makes sense and does present a fairer playing field. I cannot fault Ms. Combs for that.
My question for the BOR readers:
Can anybody think of an example, say corporate or business taxes, in which Ms. Combs was not as zealous in collecting?
My point - is she being politically selective in making sure the State collects taxes from Amazon, meanwhile looking the other way when other more politically potent organizations have tax debts here in Texas.
Think hard and write well (at least better than I do) if you come up with something.
Yours in Texas,
Tug

Alright friends, longtime-reader, first-time poster.
As you all are undoubtedly aware, we are in a drought.
The papers reported this week that the drought has been officially declared by the federal USDA:

Will you guarantee that absolutely NONE of the work performed on your Trans Texas Corridor will be done by illegal immigrants?
In the debate the other night, Governor Perry's first question was on illegal immigration and border security. He proudly spoke of the National Guard troops sent to the border, and the amount of money he is asking the legislature to dedicate to border security to "stop the illegal activity down there", adding that you cannot have national security or an immigration policy without securing the border. He reached for the warm fuzzy notion of bipartisanship in adding that the predominantly Democrat Sheriffs asked for his help and he obliged.
Now...can you envision a program that would be more inviting, enticing and encouraging of illegal immigration than a multibillion dollar publicly funded roads and transportation project?

Watching the debates, Chris Bell looked and sounded "Gubnatorial" if you will. The only problem he has is that not enough people know who he is. It is a tall order to get the word out in a month, but people here - do everything you can.
Kinky is a joke - his only real plan is to expand gambling to fund education - that is no plan, won't work and will decrease property taxes in the worst way possible - by devaluing property 'cuz casinos and families don't mix.
Carole Keaton is running on old hackneyed slogans of "Austin won't listen." If ever there was an Austin insider it would be the woman whose dad has a street named after her here.
