College Democrats Take to the Capitol

by: Tory

Sun Apr 19, 2009 at 11:58 PM CDT

(Join TYD today at 11:30 a.m.! - promoted by Matt Glazer)

On Monday, Texas College Democrats from across the state will make their voices heard at the Texas Legislature. Many of the bills the legislature is considering right now will impact the lives of students. The Texas College Democrats are taking on three issues--tuition regulation, concealed carry on campus, and voter ID--and they are taking their message directly to the legislators themselves.

Taking part in the fight will be Senator Leticia Van de Putte, who will be joining TCD for a press conference on the South Steps of the Capitol at 11:30 AM. Senator Van de Putte has spoken out strongly in favor of college affordability and gun-free campuses, and against the insidious Republican voter ID bill. She will speak about the importance of these issues and the important role young Democrats can and should play at the legislature and in political affairs across the state.

Students are speaking up, from the Valley to the Panhandle. Help them win three important victories in this session. Please contact your legislators and your friends, and tell them to support students in their fight for affordable education, safe campuses, and voter enfranchisement. All three of these are fights we can win.
