After entire days of consideration and careful planning, sources close to Treaty Oak have revealed that it's close to a decision regarding the race for Democratic Candidate for US Senate in 2008.
The sources went on to indicate they feel very confident about Treaty Oak's chances considering that Treaty Oak is a living creature as opposed to the walking dead. "That zombie Cornyn really doesn't have a chance against Treaty Oak," the unidentified source said.
The following is the official statement of Treaty Oak regarding a post by Karl-Thomas Musselman of Burnt Orange Report
My friends and fellow Texans, I send you greetings from Austin where it has been a bright and beautiful spring day.
I've been informed that there has been some information put forth regarding my poisoning and I wanted to set the record straight before anyone out there, especially my fellow Democrats, had any doubts as to my commitment to the People of Texas.
While it is true that pens were made from parts of me destroyed in the heinous act of 1989, it was for a cause that I believe deeply in, the City of Austin Parks Dept. While I do not think it appropriate that one of those pens was given to then Governor George Bush, I derive pleasure from the fact that it aided in a larger, better project of helping out a city dept. close to my heart and which I would do anything within my powers to aid. Of course, there is the occasional flash of happiness I get when I think of our current President using that pen and spending hours trying to dig out a splinter of me.
It is true that Ross Perot provided a great deal of financial assistance to me after the attempt on my life. While I may not agree with Mr. Perot's politics all the time, we do have a common love for Texas and America. I am extremely happy to count him as a friend and I am, as ever, thankful for his help during a most stressful time in my life.
As for the libertarian, while I CAN drop acorns on people, sometimes they still come back and take a picture near me. I can do little to stop it.
While I have not made a decision to run in 2008, I am heartened by the letters and calls I have recieved and appreciate the support! In all my 500 years of life I've never been more positive than I am now that there is a positive future ahead for Texas.
A chocolate bunny, seen most recently on the cover of the Williams-Sonoma April, 2006 catalog, has announced it's intention to run for the position of Chair of the Texas Democratic Party.
Purple marshmallow Peeps, spokescandy for chocolate bunny, said that a formal press conference had been announced for 11:00 Monday and that chocolate bunny would elaborate more on it's plans for the race and for the Party should it prove victorious at the State Convention.
Make sure you check out the poll results below the fold
1) He's not George Bush
2) He's alive... or at least we think he is since no one to my knowledge has ever seen him, you know, campaign
3) He won't disturb us too much with nonsense like mailers, ads and press releases
4) He makes a very good dirty martini (unconfirmed)
5) HE'S A NICE GUY AND PEOPLE SEEM TO LIKE HIM

Team Gammage will be having a little impromptu pre-primary party at Mother Egans Sunday night around 6:00. We're going to try to set up the TV projector so we can laugh at the Oscars and get geared up to WIN ON TUESDAY!
Hope you can come! Mother Egans is at 6th and West on the SE corner (next to Molotov).
Monday The Daily Texan had a great article up about Chris Bell's inability to file his financial disclosure on time as the ethics laws in Texas require. Here's a quote:
"This was really just nothing more than a mistake. I wasn't trying to hide anything," Bell said.
No one's saying you were, Chris. The problem is that it's state law and if your entire campaign is going to be based on ethics then how in the hell do you do something like this? It's enough to make one think that you are either not serious about ethics or the campaign. Either way, it's not a good omen of things to come should Bell become the Democratic candidate for Governor.
Of course, the fun didn't stop there from the Bell camp. In the February 24th issue of The Texas Observer on page 12 there is an article entitled 'Accentuate the Negative'written by none other than the Bell Campaign's Jason Stanford. Here are some of the choicer quotes...
"If only we could get campaigns to stop throwing mud and stick to the
issues, armies of disaffected citizens would come out to vote. That's
all great, except for one small problem. It's a load of horse spit and
bull corn."
"Shaking hands with strangers poses risks for a candidate running a
negative television campaign. Little old ladies are liable to whack you
with their canes while they shriek about how much they hate negative
campaigning."
"Turns out, negative campaigning helps turnout -- and democracy -- if
it's done well."
So, I guess the Bell campaign's strategy with from the get-go was to drag Bob Gammage through the mud. It's unfortunate for them none of it is sticking.
"Bell missed the Feb. 13 deadline due to an oversight, said his campaign spokesman, Jason Stanford. He said the statement detailing Bell's personal finances will be filed today. The personal financial statement is separate from campaign finance reports."
This was published Thursday at 12:00 AM on a story written Wednesday. 'Today' was two days ago and the report has STILL not been filed by the Bell campaign. Irony is amusing, incompetence is not.
For anyone who wants to blow this off... it IS a big deal, especially for someone running on a platform underpinned by ethics reform.

The El Paso Times today announced their endorsements in the March 7th Democratic Primary.
Governor: Bob Gammage has wide experience, from soldier to lawmaker to state Supreme Court justice, and a desire for open government and restoring public trust. He's the best Democratic candidate
Of course this is just one of many endorsements that Bob has earned this week, including one that is deeply impressive to me, that of Houston Representative Senfronia Thompson. She was one of the courageous few in the House who stood firm against bigotry and spoke out publicly during the debate over HJR 6, the bill that led to Prop 2's placement on the ballot last November. Needless to say, it's deeply encouraging to see a Democrat like Thompson endorse Gammage.
