In 2006, of all our statewide candidates on the ballot, Bill Moody's run for Texas Supreme Court won the highest percentage of the vote among all the statewide Democrats, which is twice as impressive in light of the fact that a strong Libertarian candidate took 4% of the vote. Moody finished just 6% behind his incumbent Republican opponent.
In 2004, of all our statewide candidates on the ballot, J.R. Molina's run for Court of Criminal Appeals won the highest percentage of the vote among all the statewide Democrats.
In 2002, John Sharp's run for Lieutenant Governor and Margaret Mirabal's run for Texas Supreme Court both won 46% of the vote, which was the highest percentage of the vote among all the statewide Democrats.
In 2000, of all our statewide candidates on the ballot, Bill Vance's run for Court of Criminal Appeals won the highest percentage of the vote among all the statewide Democrats.
These past vote totals show that the judicial races are our best opportunities for a Democratic candidate to win a statewide race.
