MLK Day of Service

by: Texans for Obama

Mon Jan 18, 2010 at 01:37 PM CST

(There are many important ways to contribute in our community. Please join in contributing to those in need in Central Texas, and to those in Haiti. - promoted by Katherine Haenschen)

PhotobucketPhotobucketLast year, President Obama challenged us to celebrate MLK Day by participating in a national day of service.

Thousands of people volunteered in their communities, and locally, we launched our "Yes We Cans" food drive to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. Our grassroots volunteers went door-to-door and collected over 3,000 pounds!

This year, in addition to collecting food, we're also fundraising for the Haitian relief effort. Let's join together and use our grassroots network to improve people's lives, one donation at a time.

You can get involved by visiting the Obama booth at the MLK Festival on Monday 1/18 at Huston Tillotson University. Or you can come to our regular Texans for Obama meetup on Tuesday 1/19 at Scholz Garten at 6:00pm. If you live outside of Austin, then go online and find a service project near you.

Let's make it our new years resolution to get more involved in community service. You can make the 2010 MLK Day of Service a Texas-sized success by collecting canned food and donating to Haiti.

Tonight: Meet Bill White at Scholz Garten

by: Texans for Obama

Tue May 19, 2009 at 00:32 PM CDT

President Obama unveiled today a bold new plan to increase auto fuel efficiency. This will reduce our dependency on foreign oil and help our environment. Obama's delivering real results and creating change we can believe in!

Today's news is welcome after eight long years of the Bush/Cheney era, but we must keep pressing forward. In order to pass Obama's full agenda, we need to elect more Democratic Senators who won't filibuster Obama's call for change.

Here in our own backyard, Texas Democrats have a unique opportunity to win the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Houston Mayor Bill White is a nationally recognized leader on alternative energy, and he's announced his candidacy as a Democrat for this Senate seat. Tonight, he'll be at Scholz Garten to answer your questions about his policy proposals. This is an important race with national implications, so we look forward to seeing you at Scholz Garten.

Texans for Obama May Meetup
Featuring Mayor Bill White
Tuesday, May 19
6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Scholz Garten
1607 San Jacinto Blvd
Austin, TX 78701
Free Admission
RSVP on Facebook

Thanks for everything you did to help elect Barack Obama. Now let's continue the momentum and elect a Texas Senator who will support Obama's agenda.

Our next monthly meetup is scheduled for June 16. The special guest will be John Sharp, another great Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. Fired up and ready to go!

Rep. Juan Garcia endorses Obama!

by: Texans for Obama

Thu Jun 21, 2007 at 09:59 AM CDT

(Here is your chance to see one of the most dynamic Presidential candidates we have had in a long time. I had a chance to hear and meet Barack during the Garcia campaign in 2006. If you can make it San Antonio on Sunday, do so. You will not be disappointed. - promoted by M. Eddie Rodriguez)

Rep. Juan Garcia recently won a legislative race that no one thought he could win.  He beat a long-time incumbent in a Corpus Christi district that was over 60% Republican.  But like Obama, Garcia ran on a strong message of change, and the voters responded.  He just finished his first Texas legislative session, and he has bright political future ahead of him.

This Sunday, Obama is coming back to Texas, and Rep. Garcia will be there.  Tickets are $25, so click here to RSVP.  Supporters can win a free ticket by signing up to volunteer.  Let's show Barack a big Texas welcome. Our goal is to raise $10,000 from small donors in one summer afternoon. We can do it!

WHO:  Sen. Barack Obama
WHAT:  San Antonio Grassroots Fundraiser
WHEN:  Sunday, June 24 - 1:00 PM
WHERE: Sunset Station, 1174 East Commerce St
(Parking available at the Alamodome)
