June Challenges - Donate to Karen Huber today!

(Karen Huber's campaign is located just down the hall at the local Travis HQ. Happy to promote this.   - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Dear Friends -

Thanks so much for all your encouragement, hard work and support.  I am truly pleased with how the campaign is going and it is great to be launching full speed ahead into the General Election effort. In order to ensure success in November, we need to gear up now!

For this,  I need your help.

This Monday, June 30th is the first campaign finance reporting deadline for the general election.  Talk to your friends and neighbors about this important race.  Forward this information to your friends and encourage them to get involved. But most importantly, encourage them to contribute TODAY.

This is going to be an expensive race. My opponent is well ahead in fundraising from special interests across the county that are ponying up to ensure they keep the vote on the Commissioners Court they need for their interests - not ours.

THE CHALLENGE:  We're asking each of our supporters to get 3 people to donate to my campaign before Monday, June 30th.  If you've already donated, we thank you for your support.  If not, we ask you to please consider the importance of this race on the future of our quality of life in Travis County.

Please go to http://www.votekarenhuber.com/contribute.asp

Next, as we campaign throughout Precinct 3, we continually hear about issues affecting our neighborhoods.  I envision a County Government that works with us to find solutions for these concerns.  What YOU think is important and we want to know!

THE CHALLENGE: Go to www.VoteKarenHuber.com and tell us the issues and concerns in your area.

The final challenge is:  This summer is HOT - so stay COOL!

. . . and we'll have a summer full of fun working together to make positive changes in Travis County!

Thank you & I'll see you on the trail!

And They Say the Media is Liberal....

( - promoted by Matt Glazer)

A few years ago, some friends of mine asked me to help them as they created a grassroots organizing academy surrounding the candidacy of Presidential nominee Gov. Howard Dean.  The concept was revolutionary - teaching progressive (read: Democratic)activists how to organize and run local, grassroots camapigns, and win.  The Latinos for America training academy was then picked up by Democracy for America and is the current incarnation of the national DFA Training academy (coming to Austin soon.)

Over my three year stint as an LFA/DFA trainer, I met brilliant, politically like-minded folks from all over the U.S. with fantastically diverse ideas on grassroots organizing.  Among these wise persons is Dr. Jeffrey Feldman, editor and founder of the politically important blog Frameshop.

Dr. Feldman is masterful at explaining how progressives can skillfully semanticize any debate and utilizes the power of the internet to blast off weekly talking points regarding national and international issues.  He just published a new book on this very topic called Framing the Debate: Famous Presidential Speeches and How Progressives Can Use Them to Change the Conversation (And Win Elections).

Well it seems now the illustrious New York Times has bashed Dr. Feldman's book to an oblivion claiming "many people often react to the idea of framing political debate with suspicion, concerned that framers engage in little more than the cunical packaging of ideas for political gain."
