Rep. Dennis Bonnen

by: Elsbeth

Sun May 29, 2011 at 11:13 PM CDT

Rep. Dennis Bonnen just said that he and Rep. Eiland are "going out later," after saying that Rep. Eiland was one of the smarter lawyers in the Chamber or something like that. {{loud laughter}}

Why is Dennis Bonnen so popular? I don't get it.

Along with so many of his "elders," in the Texas legislature, this man is a disgrace.

Kirk Claunch, a Fort Worth lawyer representing landowners in property-damage suits against natural gas operators in Denton and Johnson counties, described the expanded bill as an attack on private property rights.

"I can't think of any piece of legislation that's more un-American than one that deprives a private property owner of the right to defend themselves against abuses from a big oil company or anybody else," Claunch said. "This is law that essentially says we are going to let the oil and gas industry do whatever it needs and to run over anybody that gets in its way without any consequence."

Claunch said the amendment wouldn't have stopped lawsuits he has pending in Denton and Johnson counties, but it would have affected other landowners who want to sue companies whose activities hurt land values. [emphasis added.]

Oh, great. Now he's filling in for the Speaker, again. Is this the best our state can do with leadership? Dennis Bonnen. Is this it??

Governor Perry et al Knew They Were Poisoning Us

by: Elsbeth

Sun May 22, 2011 at 03:59 PM CDT

We are facing such serious issues in the North Texas Barnett Shale. All of the bills that are intended to help us are falling on the deaf ears and the hardened hearts of this GOP-controlled legislature.

Now comes the poisoning. Making decisions like this for ALL Texans...for many years, without our knowledge.  These guys running our state are really beyond sick.

Since they keep getting elected...I suppose we can expect that "Poisoning the Electorate". Strategy to remain in their Playbook.

Raise Your Voice, Now!

Final March: Call Congress

After months of hard work, the final vote on health reform in the House of Representatives is expected to be this Sunday.

But it's shaping up to be incredibly close -- so whether you've called your representative before or haven't yet spoken out on health reform, it's now time to raise your voice.

I called my Republican representative today, twice! Just heard a television ad asking us to not trust the "sleazy backroom deals."

Well, I say, don't trust the sleazy backroom antics being used to prevent Americans from having healthcare reform.

We all deserve to hear the truth. And it's not coming from those who are lying to us about all of this. I think that would be Republicans.

I called and asked my Republican congressman's office today if he was for or against reform...just to be certain. I guess I've always held out hope that he would suddenly see the light! But no go. No. No. And No.

Sunday. I heard a Republican say recently that it would be a cold day in hell before this bill passes. Well, it's going to be below 32 degrees here in the D/FW area on Sunday.

Welcome, cold day in hell.

It's going to be a beautiful day!

Forecast Details from the Weather Team

Sunday - Cloudy. A 20 percent chance of snow in the morning. Windy. Highs in the mid 40s. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 40 mph. Wind chill readings as low as 18 to 23 in the morning.

Sunday Night - Mostly cloudy in the evening then clearing. Lows in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph.

We Need More Congressional Reps Like Marcy Kaptur

by: Elsbeth

Sat Oct 10, 2009 at 03:20 PM CDT

Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) makes an appearance in Michael Moore's latest film, "Capitalism: A Love Story." According to Bill Moyers (Bill Moyers Journal), she is the longest-serving woman ever in Congress.

This is an amazing interview. If you take the time to watch it in its entirety, I'm certain you won't regret it.

BILL MOYERS: How do we get Congress back? How do we get Congress to do what it's supposed to do? Oversight. Real reform. Challenge the powers that be.

MARCY KAPTUR: We have to take the money out. We have to get rid of the constant fundraising that happens inside the Congress. Before political parties used to raise money; now individual members are raising money through the DCCC and the RCCC. It is absolutely corrupt. It's good people.

[...]

MARCY KAPTUR: And then people wonder, 'Well, why doesn't Congress get along?' Because they are made into arch enemies by the type of fundraising system that is embedded in the very guts of the institution. So, you've got to clean that out. But meanwhile, we need to get hired over at the justice department, 1,000 agents, in mortgage fraud and in securities fraud. Then, I pray, that the leadership of both chambers will do the kind of robust hearings that the nation deserves to rout out those who did wrong and to change the fundamental financial architecture of this country. And then the President needs to get his top housing advisors in the room with him. And they need to meet all weekend. And they need to get their arms around this housing market, in order to stem the rising foreclosures. We haven't stopped the bleeding out there.

BILL MOYERS: Does President Obama get it?

MARCY KAPTUR: I don't think President Obama has the right people around him. The poor man inherited a total mess, globally and domestically. I think some of the people that he trusted haven't delivered. I urge him to get new generals. It's time. [Emphasis added.]

Sincerely, Rick Perry + Poll

by: Elsbeth

Wed Sep 23, 2009 at 00:11 AM CDT

Contrary to what some Texas governors think, professional demeanor is very important in being a successful politician. I suppose I'm surprised that after being governor of Texas for almost 9 years, Governor Perry seems to still be figuring it all out.

So, if it takes a village to educate a child, maybe it takes a decent "political hack" to educate a governor?

The Incredible Hypocrisy of Glenn Beck (*Updated*) w/New Videos

by: Elsbeth

Sat Aug 22, 2009 at 02:34 PM CDT

In case you missed it...I know I almost did. Wait 28 seconds for the ad to play.

Just 16 months ago Glenn Beck was disgusted with our health care system while apparently recovering from hemorrhoid surgery.

Glenn Beck's Video In His Own Words (January 3, 2008)~

No wonder he went on hiatus this week.

Even so, I betcha he's still in the running for Rick Perry's next "Honorary Texan."

I cry everytime I see this amazing video ~

*Update*

Speaking of Honorary Texans (as they are right now on the Big Orange)...our most recent honoree, Mr. Sean Hannity, is proof positive that good solid hypocrisy can only improve Glenn Beck's chances for getting this award:
