Presidential Campaign in Gregg County

by: CG4ET

Sat Feb 16, 2008 at 06:12 PM CST

I have lived in Gregg County for well over half my life and during 4 of the last 5 Presidential elections.

In that time, East Texas has seen its share of campaign visits. I saw Lloyd Bentsen when he came to Kilgore in the Fall of 1988. I vividly remember George H.W. Bush landing in Air Force One at the Gregg County Airport in '92. Bill Clinton's 1992 visit is the stuff of legend around here.

But, nothing that happened in that time can compare to what we have seen here in the past couple of days. I have a feeling that the ride isn't over yet.

Judge Susan Criss Campaigns in Longview

by: CG4ET

Fri Oct 05, 2007 at 05:52 PM CDT

( - promoted by Matt Glazer)

I was thrilled to see Judge Susan Criss speak in Longview yesterday at a meeting of the Texas Democratic Women of Gregg County.

Despite some logistical challenges, and a last minute venue change, the meeting was well attended and most came away from the event with a positive impression of Judge Criss.

Texas GOP: Friends of Michael Vick?

by: CG4ET

Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 07:33 PM CDT

10 Texas Republican Congressmen are among those who have recently found themselves in the doghouse with supporters of laws against animal cruelty.

In all, 31 members of the House of Representatives (30 Republicans and 1 Democrat) were called out by Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society for having opposed three pieces of legislation that were intended to increase protections and guarantees of humane treatment for animals.

Will John Cornyn Return Larry Craig's Money?

by: CG4ET

Sun Sep 02, 2007 at 11:15 AM CDT

FEC Reports show that Texas Senator John Cornyn accepted $10,000 in campaign contributions from Senator Larry Craig's Alliance for the West PAC.

One might wonder whether Cornyn might return the contribution as other Senator's (Collins and Coleman) are now doing.

Longview Denies Safe Homes For Child Abuse Victims

by: CG4ET

Fri Aug 10, 2007 at 07:14 PM CDT

The good Christian people of Longview have now taken to denying homes to children who are victims of abuse.

Willowbend RTC, as it is known, provides a safe home and treatment for children who have been victims of abuse. According to Willowbend Administrator Shane Harrold: "These are kids that have been through the worst experiences you could go through next to being killed." You would think that our community would be proud that we had a program like the one offered by Willowbend.

Shari Pulliam, who works for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, has indicated that the state needs an expanded Willowbend facility.

Longview Anti-War Movement Sprouting Up

by: CG4ET

Wed Jul 04, 2007 at 00:15 PM CDT

I just returned from a very successful and invigorating anti-war rally in Gregg County.

Approximately 75 people turned out on a rainy 4th of July morning to stand on the Loop in Longview holding signs declaring their support of our troops and their desire to bring the troops home where they belong.
