Lee Leffingwell has earned the support of the progressive community in Austin, and he'll provide strong leadership as our next Mayor. If you haven't already voted, then please click here to find your polling location.
Leffingwell's willingness and ability to work patiently with disparate interest groups - as well as his council colleagues - has broken policy logjams and moved the city forward on water conservation, redevelopment, public safety, and other issues. We haven't agreed with him on every issue, but he listens very well and seriously considers all public input, including opposing viewpoints. His mandate will also include being an inspiring, forward-thinking leader; he will need to use wisely the "kitchen cabinet" he proposes, in order to generate fresh ideas, solutions, and public energy.
Come to Lee's headquarters today and volunteer! Let's spread the word about Lee's progressive vision for Austin.
You can choose from several volunteer options:
1) Phone banking
2) Poll workers
3) Street visibility
It's a beautiful day in Austin, TX. So come volunteer and elect a mayor who shares our values.

Background Info on Paul Tewes:
Paul Tewes is a Democratic strategist specializing in national political organizing. Tewes was the Iowa state director for Barack Obama's presidential campaign, and continued after the Iowa caucus to lead Obama's field operations in key states such as Nevada, Ohio and Pennsylvania. According to the Huffington Post, Tewes "is widely regarded among the very most talented of political organizers in the nation," and was "largely responsible for Obama's surprise win in Iowa.
Tim Russert has passed away of a heart attack at just 58 years old. Shocking, sad, at a loss for words.
Many people on both sides of the aisle and all ends of the political spectrum have expressed both positive and negative opinions about Tim Russert through the years. I, for one, have always found him to be one of the the smartest, most reassuring and legitimate voices in politics.
I've grown up with him on Meet the Press and more recently have relied on him and the rest of the NBC News team for great political coverage during this historic presidential campaign. Ian and I have our DVR set to record MTP, but don't bother with the other Sunday morning shows - his is far and away the best one (though I do have a lotta love for Shieffer as well). And the election night coverage on MSNBC never disappoints.
On the night of the Indiana primary, Tim uttered the best line of the entire campaign saying, "We now know who the Democratic nominee is gonna be."
This is incredibly sad news and it will be very difficult to fill his shoes. Brokaw maybe?
(I wish city council races could be more about vision than some of the back and forth over who is who's supporters, Either way, it's early and that's going to be part of the discussion as city elections are very important to us here at BOR. I'll promote this for discussion. - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)
"Hello, Kettle? This is the Jennifer Kim Campaign. You're black."
Last week, two RECA past presidents and a whole host of heavy hitter developers held a fundraiser for Council Member Jennifer Kim.
The hosts of this event included current and former RECA (Real Estate Council of Austin) officers and board members, who are also some of the biggest condo developers in town. Even the folks who are not actual developers on this list represent developers in front of the City Council (translation: lobbyists).
