(I'm giving the opportunity for those running for UDems office to engage the BOR community as this blog was born out of University Democrats and has many members among our readership. - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)
I thought that perhaps people might have the wrong idea about why I'm running for University Democrats President, so I'm going to give an account for myself right here for all to see.
First of all, I'm not running because I think it would be funny, nor am I running just because I was nominated. I'm not running because I think being UDems President will be easy and I definitely don't think it will be some kind of ego trip for me. And although this is part of the reason, I'm not running solely to give everyone a serious alternative to Nick Chu.
With that having been said, the real reason I'm running is this: I love UDems and I want to improve it. Nick's done a good job with the major stuff, especially in the volunteering area, but there are quite a number of smaller - but still important - things that tend to get overlooked. I've talked to a lot of my fellow UDems members, and most of them feel the same way. Here follow a few of the improvements I would make as president:
For quite a while, I've been interested in the idea giving non-officers a way to more actively participate in the meetings (if they so choose) rather than just sitting there listening. A lot of the people I've talked to this past week have expressed a similar interest. Now, I'm well aware that by increasing the number of people helping to run the meeting, we run the risk of making the meeting more chaotic, but it is definitely possible to strike a balance that will keep things running smoothly while getting our people more involved, and as president I will do just that.
