Completely fabulous rant by Melody Townsel about Phil Gramm

by: BeckyH

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 09:42 PM CDT

Melody isn't a member here, she gave me permission to cross-post this here - I wanted to be sure as many people as possible see this piece of brilliance by a Texas woman:

Hey, Gramm: Texan to Texan, Kiss My Whining Ass!
by Melody Townsel
Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 07:26:21 PM CDT
Back today from the gas station and the grocery store, Phil, returning to my home here in Dallas to find yet another fistful of bills in my mailbox.

As I crack open a beer and settle down to a brisk session of online billpay this evening, I want to take a few minutes first, Phil, to kvetch. To bitch. To moan. And to tell you, as I listen vaguely to MSNBC on the TV across the room cataloguing a long laundry list of the factors -- ranging from the gutting of the Fourth Amendment to $4.11 gasoline to Disney having to fight gun-toting employees to the doubling of insurance premiums over the last three years -- of all the reasons so many of us "whiners" believe America is in decline.

Just a few brief minutes before I get back to work to kvetch. To bitch. To moan. To tell you a little bit about the way life is these days for this Texas single mom. And, then, to tell you to go fuck yourself.

HB37: Temperature-Adjusted Gas

by: John McClelland

Sun May 20, 2007 at 04:38 PM CDT

And now I hear it is too late this session, but I am going to leave the topic up since it is something to consider in 2009's session. Gas will be about $20 a gallon by then.

With extraordinary gas price increases this year, one would think the Texas Legislature may try and assist its citizens and make sure we are getting the bang for our $3.08 a gallon that we deserve. It should be making sure we are actually getting that gallon of gas. But instead I have found a bill sitting in committee for the past month that should instead be sitting on the Governor's desk.

House Bill 37, authored by Rep Burt Solomons of Denton County, refers to the sale of temperature-adjusted unleaded and diesel gasoline. Depending on climate and temperature, gasoline expands and contracts. Thus, in certain areas of the state that are hotter, you are getting less than your gallon of gasoline that you think you are paying for. In effect, the hotter it is, the more we get screwed at the pump!

While I don't always agree with Rep. Solomons legislation, this is a bill with merit. Several states across the nation have been seeking similar legislation to force the oil industry to allow retail outlets to install temperature-adjusted pumps.

It is already bad enough that our Department of Agriculture does not inspect gas pumps at retail outlets in a timely manner (ask me some day to find the pictures of the out of date Weights & Measures inspection stickers I have found in both Dallas and Houston. We're getting Stapled!). Now we realize that we aren't even getting a gallon of gas when we pay for one. This bill needs to get out of committee and to the house floor. It has been sitting in committee since April 17.

Consider calling or emailing the Agriculture & Livestock Committee members to give them that needed push: Chairman Rep. Sid Miller, Vice-Chair Rep. Charles "Doc" Anderson, Rep. Betty Brown, Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock, Rep. Pete Gallego, Rep. Juan M. Garcia, and Rep. Joe Heflin.

Thanks for the support

(Another candidate diary, welcome! Hank Gilbert is running for Ag Commissioner and is one of my two most favorite candidates running statewide. - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Thanks to everyone that has supported the down-ballot statewide candidates.  Your strong endorsements have been our driving force to win in November.  None of us are millionaires, or associate with that crowd.  We represent the very core of Texas....hard-working, tax-paying people.  Our children attend public schools, we have to endure over-taxation without representation, and we all strive for liberty and justice for all.  We visit with ordinary citizens daily around our state, and listen to their concerns.  We strive to make their voices heard in November!

With your help, we will succeed!  Regardless of party politics, regardless of corporate Republicans, regardless of huge odds against us...we will succeed!  People across our great state are tired, and they are ready to embrace true reform.  The down-ballot candidates offer that hope, and the reform movement is gaining momentum.  We ask the true democrats of Texas to help us propel this movement to every household throughout Texas!  Visit our websites, email us, attend functions around our state, and help us keep the movement going.

It only takes a few holes in the great Republican Dam to cause enough weakness for it to fail.  With your help and support, this November there will not be any more drought in Texas 'cause we're going to break the dam, and wash all of those sorry bastards out to sea!!!

Thanks for your encouragement and continued support!!!

Hank
