Today's Houston Chronicle reports that Rick Noriega and Barack Obama are up by seven percent in Harris County. For the first time in forty-four years, Harris County voters are on the verge of favoring a Democratic Presidential candidate.
WOW.
Hats off to the Noriega campaign and the Harris County Democrats for their exhaustive efforts.
They gave Barack Obama the edge over Republican John McCain by 7 percentage points this week, with very few undecided or backing another contender.
Voters also favored Democrat Rick Noriega of Houston against Republican Sen. John Cornyn by the same amount - with 13 percent undecided or committed to another candidate.
The survey results were compiled by Zogby International as early voting got under way for the Nov. 4 election.
I truly can not imagine Republican John Cornyn representing Texas for another 6 years. And since it's looking really good for Obama and for a lot of other good Democrats across the country, we'll be sorta ostracized, won't we? Out-of-the-loop. Back-of-the-room. Lost. Forgotten. :(
The country doesn't think too much of Texas after the current presidential nightmare. I just can't imagine returning John Cornyn to Washington. It will be like a Bush holdover. A very dark, bottomless pit. And that's just too much to think about.
John Cornyn, the black and white senator, belongs with a line or two in our history books ~ safely tucked away as part of the past. This "place called nostalgia" that he seems to be striving so hard to take us to with his series of "ads," well, it's really depressing to think about.
Rick Noriega is our future. Sadly, John Cornyn deserves some pity. He is lost in the wilderness hanging with unfortunate cows and windmills and whatever else he can find out there.
Rick Noriega has shown me that he is ready to get to work on making life better again for all Texans. Oh, I heard him in an interview with conservative radio creature Mark Davis a couple of days ago ~ (yes, the Rush Limbaugh clone who broadcasts from Dallas) and Rick was superb!! Mark tried to trip him up (in my opinion). But that didn't work out well at all. Like I said, Rick was superb!
By the way, Opie and Andy look really good in black and white.
Update: Looks like the Andy/Opie excerpt from the full-length video was taken down. But the original video (including the Fonz) is certainly available. Enjoy!
Come on folks, give a large group of struggling Democratic activists in Texas a hand. There is a group of us spanning the vast state of Texas that have been working day and night to send Rick to Washington. We're grassroots every day folks who have given as much as our little piggy banks hold. And our go to Big Dogs are maxed out.
We cannot take 6 more years of a right winger who serves as the puppet for the fat cats in big oil, big insurance, big banking and big everything with money.
And neither can you.
Why?
If elected John Cornyn will block every single thing a Democratic President and Congress will try to accomplish. Mark my words, folks. Corn Dog will rally any Republican buddies who are left in Congress to do likewise. He will reach out to the right wing media to demonize the Democratic Administration. And the right wing media, like FOX "News," will be more than happy to oblige.
Get it? Even if you do not live in Texas John Cornyn will work against your best interests.
The Houston Chronicle is hitting them out of the park. For the first time since 1964, the newspaper supported a Democratic candidate for U.S. President. On Sunday it endorsed Senator Barack Obama.
This morning I opened the newspaper and saw more great news. This endorsement is no tentative, mild mannered one, either. The Houston Chronicle wrote a glowing commentary about Rick Noriega, his background, his impeccable record and his distinguished accomplishments.
It will be especially important for Texans to have a strong, respected voice inside the expected Democratic majority in the Senate. Rick Noriega offers such a voice, with a distinctive Lone Star tone and perspective.
The Chronicle endorses Noriega for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican John Cornyn.
Noriega, a Houstonian, describes himself as a Texas Democrat. That term, once common currency in the state's political conversation, seems to have fallen out of favor over the past several Republican-dominated years. But it resonates once more in this season of voter discontent with partisanship uber alles. Some old-fashioned moderate bipartisanship, Texas style, should be much welcomed in the Washington debate, particularly on overheated topics such as energy and immigration. Rick Noriega can provide it.
In 17 generalelectionendorsements so far, the Daily Texan has endorsed 13 Democrats. Of half the endorsements going to non-Democrats, no Democrat is running (CD 21, CCA 9).
Here are the endorsed Democrats:
Rick Noriega, US Senate
Larry Joe Doherty, US Congressional District 10
Lloyd Doggett, US Congressional District 25
Brian Ruiz, US Congressional Districct 31
Valinda Bolton, TX House District 47
Donna Howard, TX House District 48
Mark Strama, TX House District 50
Diana Maldonado, TX House District 52
Eddie Rodriguez, TX House District 51
Jim Jordan, TX Supreme Court Chief Justice
Linda Yanez, TX Supreme Court Place 8
Susan Strawn, TX Criminal Court of Appeals Place 3
Jim Coronado, 427th District Judge
Perhaps the oddest endorsement is Criminal Court of Appeals, Place 4. With a Republican incumbent and a Democratic challenger, the Texan decided to endorse the Libertarian, Dave Howard. Apparently he "has strong criticisms of the court with which we could not agree more."
The TDP e-mail today highlights a scary possibility; from today's Houston Chronicle:
Friends and detractors alike describe the San Antonio lawyer as a man of great ambition who might one day run for president or become a nominee for the Supreme Court.
"The sky's the limit," says Cornyn adviser David Beckwith, a GOP operative who once served as press secretary to Vice President Dan Quayle.
Craptastic. I'll let TDP Chair Boyd Richie sum up my thoughts:
“While Senator Cornyn’s presidential ambitions are merely a pipe dream, the reality would be a living nightmare for hard-working Texans,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie. “While he is sitting in Washington wishing he were President, here in Texas, one in five children are wishing they had health insurance.

John Cornyn would seek to be another George Bush in trying to manipulate voter registration as he along with George Bush and the Republican Supreme Court, did in the 2000, 2004 and 2006 elections.
Most Americans know George Bush basically stole the 2004 election and used Alberto Gonzales and the Justice Department, which became a wing of Bush's White House, made false and fraudulent voter fraud allegations.
