Governor Rick Perry

Sincerely, Rick Perry + Poll

by: Elsbeth

Wed Sep 23, 2009 at 00:11 AM CDT

Contrary to what some Texas governors think, professional demeanor is very important in being a successful politician. I suppose I'm surprised that after being governor of Texas for almost 9 years, Governor Perry seems to still be figuring it all out.

So, if it takes a village to educate a child, maybe it takes a decent "political hack" to educate a governor?

Good for Perry, Bad for Texans

by: David Kobierowski

Sun Aug 02, 2009 at 11:52 AM CDT

Texas Dmoecratic Party Chair Boyd Richie authored a solid op-ed in yesterday's Austin American-Statesman (Sat., Aug. 1st) titled "Texans Lose Helping Hand Because of GOP Finder-pointing".

Richie makes a lot of interesting points in the letter.  Some include:

Here's the Republican primary politics price tag on just this one issue.  The state will have to borrow - with interest - as much as $2B to cover the shortfall in our unemployment fund.  Texas employers will pay a "Republican Primary Tax Hike" because our tax dollars went to other states.

The unemployment fund fiasco should send an ominous warning to voters about what happens when politicians stay in office so long that they put their political careers ahead of what's right for Texas.

Today, we are paying the prices for a Republican primary between two politicians who have shown neither the character nor the leadership that made Texas great.

My Take:

Realize, what Rick Perry did, as horrible as it is for Texans, was politically brilliant.  This is candy for his 400,000+ Republican primary votes he'll need to secure his win over Hutchison.

Perry was down by as much as 25% before this, and up at least 10% after.

Smart move for Perry, horrible for Texans.  This is the reason Perry will win the Repub Primary in March 10'.  He will do anything to win.

Can you blame Gov. Perry for wanting to win and doing whatever it takes to win?  A lot of folks in that position might have done the same thing.  He's simply pandering to his conservative primary base.

What would you do if you were in his shoes, knowing this act would likely help you win the Governor's seat?

Best,
David Kobierowski

A Travelers Guide to Wackadoodleonia

by: Harold Cook

(Hi-larious! - promoted by Phillip Martin)

Originally posted at Letters From Texas

Dear Foreign Visitor:

As your guide to the sovereign state of Wackadoodleonia, welcome!

Yes, we realize you probably made your travel plans to "Texas" long before former Texas Governor Rick Perry, now the President And Supreme Commander of Wackadoodleonia, seceded and formed our own country. But despite this abrupt change, we think you'll find your stay here in Wackadoodleonia to be an enjoyable one.

We can't fault you for a bit of unease. We, too, thought at first that El Presidente Perry was kidding, when his comments suggested that he doesn't blame people a bit for wanting to secede from the United States of America - our neighbor to the North. But then, nationally-renowned statesmen Rush Limbaugh and Tom DeLay weighed in, the concept caught on, and the rest, as they say, is history.

We hope you will enjoy your time visiting Wackadoodleonia, but as with travel to any foreign country, a few precautions should be taken.

First, if you're traveling with children, please be aware that their health insurance coverage was declared null and void at our border. Please contact the Wackadoodleonia Department of Insurance for a rider which will cover your child during your visit. Unfortunately, coverage is very expensive here, when it's available at all, so good luck.

Also, please be aware that here in sunny Wackadoodleonia, we have instituted a "no tolerance" policy on crime, including instituting the death penalty for parking violations. There are no appeals, since there are no court houses. We tore them down after we deported all the lawyers. We now settle our disputes as a civilized and free people should - with guns.

We love our U.S. neighbors to the North. However, we must take issue with the border wall your country is now constructing, segregating us from the American states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Well, we don't mind the Oklahoma wall so much, but you get the point. Wackadoodleonians only want good paying jobs to feed their families; the fact that we are sneaking across the border into the U.S. is testament to your good-paying jobs and great employee benefits. Plus, we Wackadoodleonians are doing the jobs Americans don't want to do anyway. So please keep that in mind and try to be a little more sensitive, mmm-kay?

Also, as a U.S. visitor to Wackadoodleonia, please keep in mind that we have very strict laws against Americans voting in our elections. That's why we require that all voters show a valid Wackadoodleonia drivers license and an NRA Lifetime Membership card prior to being allowed to cast a vote for the Republican of their choice.

And finally - it's true what they say, "you can go to Wackadoodleonia, but don't drink the water!" Please note that even before Texas broke away from our oppressors to the North, Wackadoodleonia had the hightest amount of toxic chemicals released into our water anywhere in the U.S.

With those details aside, we hope you enjoy your stay, and hope you enjoyed Lee Greenwood's rousing "I'm Proud To Be A Wackadoodleonian" over the loudspeakers as you arrived at the airport! As President Perry says, "we're proud of Wackadoodleonia - how 'bout you?"

PS: we realize that we kind of messed up the whole look of the American flag when we withdrew from the Union. 49 stars instead of 50 just looks like crap - our bad. May we suggest that you take in Puerto Rico a state, if only to maintain the symmetry? Just a thought.

Rick Perry For Texas Secession?

by: Elsbeth

Tue Apr 14, 2009 at 10:16 PM CDT

( - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

KT: Clearly this is an effort to counter his primary opponent Larry Kilgore who lists the secession of Texas as his top issue. And to think he got a quarter million votes against Perry in the 2006 Gubernatorial primary...

Our fearless leader?

Not good. I like being an American. Transcript below.

I believe the federal government has become oppressive. It's become oppressive in its size, its intrusion in the lives of its citizens, and its interference with the affaris of our state.

Texans need to ask themselves a question. Do they side with those in Washington who are pursuing this unprecendented expansion of power, or do they believe in individual rights and responsibilities laid down in our foundational documents.

Where're you gonna' stand? With an ever-growing Washington bureaucracy, or are you going to stand with the people of this state who understand the importance of state's rights.

Texans need to stand up. They need to be heard, because the state of affairs that we find ourselves in cannot continue indefinitely...

...We think it's time to draw the line in the sand and tell Washington that no longer are we going to accept their oppressive hand in the state of Texas. That's what this press conference, that's what these Texans are standing up for. There is a point in time where you stand up and say enough is enough, and I think Americans, and Texans especially have reached that point.

Sarah Does Dallas

by: Elsbeth

She came. Dallas Republicans saw. She went.

Local Democrats questioned Mr. McCain's and Ms. Palin's credentials as reformers.

"I have yet to hear one new plan from either one of them," said Dallas County Party Chairwoman Darlene Ewing. [emphasis added.]

Governor Rick Perry was mighty proud of her performance Thursday night:

"I bet there were a lot of Democrats who woke up yesterday morning kinda looking forward to the debate and thinking that they were going to watch our candidate get steamrolled by their guy," he said. "I bet a lot of them woke up this morning a little bit scared because they realize they got a fight on their hands." [emphasis added]

Scared? I wouldn't characterize my feelings as "scared," Governor. In fact, I haven't talked to one Democrat who is "scared" after seeing Sarah Palin's performance Thursday night.

However, I was scared when I heard her comments last week.

Is Perry Endorsing Guilliani?

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Tue Oct 16, 2007 at 07:21 PM CDT

Our colleagues across the aisle at Right of Texas report:
Sources in Austin have revealed to ROT that the "major" endorsement being touted by the Giuliani campaign for tomorrow, is in fact Governor Rick Perry.

This could help Giuliani gain traction in the south and with the hardcore conservative crowd…we will have to see.

On a side note, as someone who has voted for Governor Perry, lives in Texas, and is a social conservative, I am quite disappointed in the Governor for supporting someone like Mayor Giuliani, who is socially liberal. The Governor seems to just want a seat at the table.

Nothing concrete -- but ROT did correctly predict Hutchison's announcement several weeks before anyone else did. So we'll give them the benefit of the doubt to see if this pans out.

Update from Matt: As the comment below points out, Perry is going to be on the Fox News show Fox & Friends tomorrow around 6:20 a.m. to run for Vice President possibly endorse Rudy for President. Please consider this an open thread to discuss the political impacts of a Perry endorsement.
