here in Ellis County,we are the bastion of liberalism.(OK,I'm one of three)
One of my local papers demonstrates this:
http://www.elliscountypress.co...
http://www.elliscountypress.co... "Part of what Christian and conservative voters instinctively feel we must accomplish in this Midterm Election (now only five days away, with Early Voting ending on the 29th) is to remove and replace as many part-of-the-problem elected officials as possible, then complete the job in the 2012 Elections."
http://www.elliscountypress.co... Almost anyone can fully understand why any leftist, socialist, progressive, or whatever they choose to call themselves, would vote Democrat this election cycle. After all, the Democrat Party has little or no policy differences with their European Social Democratic or even Green Party counterparts. So, there is no question why those on the left would pull the lever for any Democrat.
There is, however, a legitimate question as to why anyone who does not fall into the leftist category would even contemplate voting for a Democrat this year. If you consider that Barack Hussein Obama and the Democrat majorities in both houses of congress have taken this republic in an unprecedented direction and given the federal government unprecedentedly vast powers,
http://www.elliscountypress.co... It was quite a surprise the past week to hear German Chancellor Angela Merkel say that "Our attempt to have ethnic groups and religions live side by side and enjoy each other has failed, utterly failed."
Not only is this from a major European leader, a socialist and one-world supporter.
It is also surprising that it is coming from a country with Germany's history, which makes this particularly encouraging.
There is MUCH,MUCH more at the site.Gay-hating,racial baiting, incitement of hate.Welcome to Ellis County,y'all.
It has been one year since protesters gathered on Tax Day, and in the time since political observers have attempted to understand and explain the Tea Party movement. The mainstream media has covered the Tea Party as a political sideshow, the conservative media has embraced the Tea Party as their audience, the Republican Party has attempted to exploit the Tea Party for political gain, the Democratic Party has used controversial Tea Party rhetoric as political fodder, conservatives have both embraced and dismissed the Tea Party, and liberals have raised their concerns about the movement. The Tea Party has been a fascinating political movement to observe, and it is a complicated thing to explain. After a year of observing the movement, attending the rallies, town hall meetings, and debating individuals within the Tea Party movement I have an understanding of how the movement is viewed by those that are within the movement, the ideological divides within the movement, and the political realities of the movement. However, I have also observed the background motivations in the movement, and that privilege plays an important role in the Tea Party movement.
To say that Texas and the State Board of Education has recently gotten some negative play in the media would be the same as saying Karl Rove has a mild problem with facts.
I'm not going to link to some of the petitions and Facebook groups floating around the internet - google Texas Textbooks or run a quick search in Twitter and you'll spot them. I do want to lay out just exactly why these efforts are completely wrong-headed in their approach, and why they discredit Progressives everywhere - particularly those of us on the frontlines here in Texas.
Left of College Station will be covering the protest and counter-protest at Texas A&M University during President Barack Obama's speech to the Points of Light Institute.
Stay tuned for a report on the day's events, photographs from around campus and the protests, and video interviews from both the protest and the counter-protests.
I don't know. I thought it was winding down. Almost over. The last almost 8 years of the nightmare. There's great excitement for the upcoming election. The end of some really horrific federal government leadership appointed by our very own former Texas governor.
And now, there's all of this right here in our midst.
A company founded and run by members of the church received more than $1.1 million in government contracts between 2003-2007, a federal online database shows. Most of that money was spent by the Department of Defense on aircraft wheel and brake parts.
NewEra Manufacturing's president and CEO is John Wayman, a sect member who runs the Las Vegas business. NewEra was previously known as Western Precision Inc. and based in Hildale, Utah, where thousands of church members live.
In a 2005 affidavit filed with a Utah lawsuit, former church member and Western Precision worker John Nielsen said workers were underpaid or not paid at all for work they did because they were told their time and earnings were being donated to the church. [Emphasis added.]
So, let me see if I'm understanding this correctly.
I'm part of the Groundgame in Houston, precinct co-captain of a Tier 1 Precinct, 0711, in a key Senatorial District 17 with 5 Delegates in the Primary... a real opportunity for an Obama +1... West Houston.
I want to share a simple tale of what a difference each Obama supporter can make in their own way every day. Each day I volunteer I find more and more reasons why Barack Obama is going to become the next President, and most of them come from simple actions me and my friends are taking every day to make sure that happens.
Please, follow me over the jump for a story sure to motivate you this day, one week out from March 4th...
(Both Daily Kos and Time have linked to our coverage of the Prairie View A&M March. I wanted to make sure folks could still find that, in case they missed out yesterday and aren't coming to the site through those links. See the first link below. - promoted by Phillip Martin)
We had an extraordinarily busy Tuesday yesterday, with a number of compelling stories coming across our front page. In case you missed any of them, here's a look back at the many stories we discussed on the front page:
Prairie View March - In what stands to most likely be the most moving story of the entire campaign seaon, BOR reader sonia shares the story of the thousands of Prairie View A&M students that marched 7.3 miles to vote in Hempstead after county officials refused to open up any other early voting locations. This is a must read.
Texas Primary FAQ - All of BOR's research, poll numbers, delegate explanations, candidate websites, and more wrapped-up into a one-stop shopping location. Remember, this is on the top-right hand box of BOR for the rest of primary season.
Rep. Dukes KEYE Ethics Report - From a user diary, we get the YouTube clip of the tough KEYE report on recent financial issues surrounding Austin State Rep. Dawnna Dukes.
Democrat Competitive in CD-07 - Michael Hurta reports that a new poll shows Democrat Michael Skelly is within striking distance Republican Congressman John Culberson.
Voterama at UT - KT gave an on-the-scenes report of the UDems overnight camp-out to vote early on campus. He'll have some early numbers to report later on today.
Vote Early by Mail - Glen Maxey lets you know how to vote early by mail, if you need to.
Ballesteros' Vulnerability - Doug takes a closer look at the NxNW almost-rescindment of his endorsement.
A Closer Look at the McMurrey Campaign - The McMurrey campaign has used a lot of press time to talk about process. I took a closer look at those process stories, and what they mean for the U.S. Senate primary race.
All these stories -- and there were still more we never got to write. Check back throughout the day for a look at the early vote numbers in several of Texas' top counties, an analysis of how Democratic elected officials in Texas fared during the Clinton years, and a report on Speaker Craddick's attempt at electing a new generation of Craddick D's.
As always, stay tuned to BOR for all the latest and best news on everything Texas politics.
It's Monday, and that means it is time again for the Texas Progressive Alliance's weekly blog round-up. This week's round-up is compiled by Vince from Capitol Annex.
Sponsors include Reps. Senfronia Thompson, Garnet Coleman, Dora Olivo, Jessica Farrar, Rick Noriega, Ana Hernandez, and Ellen Cohen, as well as Senators Mario Gallegos & Rodney Ellis. Other sponsors include The Texas Democratic Party, The House Democratic Campaign Committee, Congressman Chris Bell, Congressman Nick Lampson, Council Member Melissa Noriega, Barbara Radnofsky, Jim Henley, & Joe Jaworski.
As stated on the website, the goal of the TexBlog PAC is to harness the power of our grassroots and online supporters and win back the Texas House:
By contributing to progressive candidates, fostering the energy of the netroots, supporting party infrastructure, registering new voters, funding civic education programs, and assisting like-minded grassroots activists, Texas bloggers will help elect progressive candidates in 2008, and beyond.
During the 2008 election cycle, the TexBlog PAC is committed to changing the direction of Texas politics by taking back the Texas House. The TexBlog PAC will work toward winning six additional seats in the Texas House, allowing Democrats to elect a Democratic Speaker. A net gain of six house seats will put an end to the Republican claim of "absolute" power and restore democracy and the democratic process to the people's House.
