Local Republicans Play to Perry's Tolls while Democrat says NO

by: John McClelland

Wed Aug 30, 2006 at 03:04 PM CDT

Letter from Amy Manuel, Democrat for Denton County Commissioner. Hwy 121 stretches across Collion and Denton Counties.

The west bound lanes of Hwy 121 were dedicated Tuesday with Republican Gov Rick Perry, all four Republican county commissioners and my opponent, Republican Justice of the Peace, Ron Marchant.

Toll roads burden our family finances even further. With rising gas prices and declining wages, why put more financial drain on our families. The tolls will be 14.5 cents a mile, one of the most expensive toll roads in America with increased planned every two years. We already pay city, county, state and federal taxes for our roads. Why do the Republicans feel we need to be charged again?

As the Democratic candidate for County Commissioner, I tried to attend this event, which was held at a public middle school and was announced as a public event. I was bared at the door. Apparently citizens with different views are not welcome, especially those who stand up and challenge our leadership when it comes to their anti-family policies.

This November, you have a choice. You have a choice to put a citizen in office who believes we should not be taxed yet again to drive on our roads. You have a choice to put a citizen in office who will not allow our hard earned dollars to be spent on more toll roads built by Perry donors and their overseas subcontractors. You have a choice to just say no to abuse of power. That choice in November is me, Democrat Amy Manuel.

Denton County Young Democrats

by: John McClelland

Fri Aug 11, 2006 at 10:06 AM CDT

Yes you heard that correctly. As of this past July 12th, a Young Democrats organization was chartered in Denton County.

After just one month in existance, our August meeting had around 30 people in attendance in Denton proper. Membership rolls already are at 40 active members, and an email list of over 100.

The website was just launched this week. If you want to check it out please visit young.dentondemocrats.org.

Members have been working hard on the site, and the launch of such a project displays the organization's positive attitude toward a new era in political communication.

The group has already been working closely with the Chris Bell campaign. The DCYD will also be helping the Bell campaign on the University of North Texas campus this fall.

If you live in Denton County, are under 40 yrs old, and interested in joining the group, please contact the Membership Coordinator, Betsy Parchem. Her email is betsyparchem@gmail.com or call 940-891-3367.

US Congress District 26: Tim Barnwell

by: John McClelland

Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 11:01 PM CDT

The DFW perspective returns tonight with a look into the race for Congressional District 26.

Democratic candidate Tim Barnwell takes on incumbent Republican Congressman Michael C. Burgess.

Below the fold, you will hear more about the district, it's two combatants, an interview with Tim Barnwell, and if Congressman Burgess is the doctor that George W. Bush referred to when saying gynaecologists should practice their love with women.

Ron Marchant responds

by: John McClelland

Thu Jul 20, 2006 at 04:51 PM CDT

If you recall, I did an interview with Amy Manuel earlier in the month.

There was a comment that some Republicans would not vote for Ron Marchant if he ran for dog catcher. Mr Marchant sent me this response today, which is reposted with his permission:

Subj: Woof Woof
Was going thru my political research and came upon a site that had an interview with Ms. Amy. To my surprise Amy believes that I play dirty tricks when it comes to politics. I'd really be interested to know what they were, or what they may be in the upcoming election.

I'm sorry that the Republicans that you have talked to wouldn't vote for me as a dog catcher, it's too bad that's not the office I am running for. I have been a City councilman for four years and a Justice of the Peace for 14, nothing in there about a dog catcher. I guess it will take some hard work on my part to educate them on what I'm really running for.

Congressman Burgess drinks the Kool Aid

by: John McClelland

Wed Jul 19, 2006 at 00:23 PM CDT

I didn't want to clutter the main page, but this has to be seen!

The Kool Aid has been received by Congressman Burgess (US House District 26) it seems. Below is a letter fwd from a Denton colleague who's name I will leave off for privacy reasons:

Thank you for expressing your support for the impeachment of
President Bush.  I appreciate hearing from you on this important
matter.

On January 20, 2001, George W. Bush, was sworn in as the 43rd
President of the United States.  Since taking office, President
Bush's record shows that he is an honest and humble man who will
seek to unite the American people and not divide them along
political party, racial, ethnic, or gender lines.  His vision for the
United States is one based upon trusting American families
through providing much-needed tax relief for everyone,
empowering parents with control over their children's education,
rebuilding our national defense, and protecting and enhancing
Medicare and Social Security benefits for our nation's elderly.  He
has exhibited excellent leadership through crises like the
September 11th attack on the World Trade Center and the
economic recession.  I believe that President Bush has and will
continue to serve our country well, restore trustworthiness and
respect to the Office of the Presidency, and work to ensure that
every American has the opportunity to experience the American
dream.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me.  I appreciate
having the opportunity to represent you in the U.S. House of
Representatives.  Please feel free to visit my website
(www.house.gov/burgess) or contact me with any future concerns.

Sincerely,
Michael C. Burgess, M.D.
Member of Congress

Denton County comes up big for Chris Bell

by: John McClelland

Tue Jul 11, 2006 at 01:11 PM CDT

July 17 Update-- A new donor from Denton County was so impressed by Chris Bell at the below dinner, that they agreed to donate an additional $20,000!!

The below press release is proof positive that Denton County should not be written off as a Republican stronghold! We are turning it more blue everyday.

Curtis Clinesmith is a Denton attorney, and former Democratic nominee for Congress.

Curtis Clinesmith & Karl Lynch hold most successful Denton County democratic fundraiser in over ten years for Chris Bell

Denton, Texas: July 7th, 2006 —

Curtis Clinesmith and Karl Lynch worked with the Chris Bell For Governor Campaign to hold the most successful fundraiser in Denton County for a statewide Democratic candidate since efforts for Ann Richards in 1994. The pair held a reception and a dinner for Congressman Bell, and during those events raised over $10,000.00 in donations. Clinesmith and Lynch worked with local Democrats to raise this money to aid Chris Bell in his run as the Democratic candidate for Governor in 2006.
