McKinney Introduces Legislation to Impeach

by: lw76

Fri Dec 08, 2006 at 07:34 PM CST

Cynthia McKinney just introduced legislation to hold the Bush administration accountable for impeachable offenses. McKinney's resolution talks about President Bush's manufacturing a case for war with Iraq and misinforming Congress and the American people. It also cites the Bush administration's illegal wiretapping of American citizens.

If we're serious about demanding accountability from our government, ordinary citizens need to speak up and stand with McKinney. 87% of those responding to an MSNBC poll said that if Bush lied to the American people, he deserves to be impeached. Congresswoman McKinney has done her part to change the course that the Bush administration is taking, and now it's up to the American people to decide if they will stand with her.

She just gave a press conference at the House. Here's a link to a story about it, including where there'll be a video link posted soon:

Here's a blog posting about it on DailyKos:

ELECTION DAY SPECIAL: KARL ROVES DIARY

by: nbender

Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 07:26 PM CST

ELECTION DAY SPECIAL:  THEY SO NEED ALL 50 WAYS

TO THE  TUNE OF PAUL SIMON’S

“50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER”

FROM THE DIARY OF KARL ROVE 2005

I’ve seen tension in Dub.  No WMD’s, no terrorists, (well when we started) in Iraq, Social Security is stalling, me and Joseph Wilson and Valerie always in the news, and they say our tax cuts have caused the worst budget deficit in history.  He needs a pep talk, we got to give him cover and stay on message

As Karl dozes, he remembers thinking; cover the boss’s back, and hears again the name of Paul Simon.  Hey, he’s dead; he can’t run for Senate, that’s how Ashcroft lost.  He stands and sings before his president:

The problems are inside the liberals head I’ll make you see
The answer is so easy if we take it logically
The whole point of this strategy is we must be blame free
There must be fifty ways to keep our cover

I know you hate reporters that peskily intrude
You always stay on message so you won’t be misconstrued
You certainly repeat yourself so if they question, they are rude
There must be fifty ways to keep our cover

Pick some folks to attack, Jack
Get a privatized plan, Stan
Make it fir or agin, Ken
Just keep us blame free

Cut the richest folk’s tax, Dax
Use the color code red, Ned
Seek new funds for Iraq, Zack
Just keep us blame free

Oh Dub, it grieves me so to see you in such pain
Wish there were new threats we could utilize for gain
I know you’d ditto that so I’ll again explain
About the fifty ways

Resist the stem cell, Dell
Force all people to pray, Ray
Coerce all to agree, Lee
Just keep us blame free

Make dissenters conform, Norm
Don’t give them their say, Jay
Keep reporters in jail, Hale
And keep us blame free

THE DIARY:  FALL 2006

Our cover’s blown.  The opposition may actually gain in this election.  It’s the press’s fault, of course, with all those anti-administration facts on WMD’s, that liberator thing (well, we were greeted, just not that way) and 9/11 (NOT) due to Saddam, but I still love saying it 9/11, 9/11, 9/11 – it still can work – we keep calling them cut and runners; (they won’t be clever enough to call us slog and bleeders) and fear, more fear, fear.  The only governing is getting elected so we must accentuate the negative because that is our positive; and to any of our candidates who don’t agree – no RNC bucks.  Karl again dreams.
Swift boat Democrat vets, Chet
That works well we’ve all seen
Demand negative ads, Thad
Or we’ll send them no green
Cause they need RNC bucks, Chuck
To control TV screens

Bait the cut and run Dems, Clem
And we’ll be home free
Give them all a good fright, Dwight
Cause we got to divide, Clyde

And we’ll get 50 states to run for cover

Absorb the plan of attack, Zack
Emphasize Bush is at war, Thor
And surely they’ll see
Deny state of denial, Lyle
And keep us blame free

Get the racist ad on, Ron
When you’re in a close race, Chase
But say you didn’t know, Joe
And keep us blame free

But….. they still might win the day, Clay
So plan what records to shred, Fred
And that’s just one more time we’ll keep our cover
  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *  We have nothing to fear so much as not having the use of fear itself”

a soon-to-be-published parable to undo all of Bush's support

by: UndoBush

Wed Oct 25, 2006 at 01:33 AM CDT

I'm on the verge of having this story published that is primarily about the urgent need to replace Bush. It's set in the context of a teacher discussing with his class how to address the leadership vacuum that will be created by undoing all of his support. Most of the students are portrayed by celebrities so it has a lot of humor to it despite how infuriating it is. I'm just sending it to as many like-minded people as I can because I'm very anxious about the possible upcoming attack on Iran.  Hopefully the following excerpt will intrigue you enough to put it on the top of your to-do list.

Where are we going?

by: skystone

Fri Sep 22, 2006 at 06:47 PM CDT

I am so annoyed and horrified at Bush and his cronies. He can't even define HUMAN DIGNITY! As he stated at his press conference last week, he can't define human dignity and therefore needs to have Congress change the current interpretation of the Geneva convention, article 3, so that he can TORTURE people!

How he can argue with McCain, a man who was tortured at the Hanoi Hilton in Vietnam is beyond me. Watch this old movie, Return with Honor (1998) a documentary on the Vietnam POW's, where they discuss torture, and you will see without a doubt that torture does not get credible information. The POW's outline what they did when tortured, which was making up information just to get the torture to stop.

Worse yet, McCain et al caved in today. I guess the cult of Bush wins. McCain et al, can't stand up except for a show for re-election purposes. They don't seem to have real morals, they just do the expedient thing to look good.

Have you ever looked up the definition of a cult?
Here it is:
Every cult can be defined as a group having all of the following 5 characteristics:
1.  It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members. [Think terrorism and fear]

2.  It forms an elitist totalitarian society [think only the rich and powerful]

3.  Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma [remember Bush said that God appointed him]

4.  It believes 'the end justifies the means' in order to solicit funds recruit people {goes without saying]

5.  Its wealth does not benefit its members or society [same here, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the rest are left behind]

I want my country back, the one that respected humanity, and was not scared and cowed by a president, a country that was proud to set an example of their values. Torture is not a Christian value, or a value of any other religion. And I am sick, sick of these brainwashed cult followers!

Are we not at war?

by: garnetfairy

Tue Sep 12, 2006 at 05:14 AM CDT

Can anyone explain to me why Bush promised a few million dollars in foreign aid to rebuild Lebanon after the war with our ally, Israel?  Are we not at war with terrorists and those who harbor and support them?  Doesnt Lebanon harbor and support Hezbollah?  Hezbollah is a listed terrorist organization, isnt it?  I know I saw the Lebanese people cheering for Hezbollah on TV.

Are we not operating in a deficit and receiving foreign aid from China???

If Bush thinks he can outspend Hezbollah in Lebanon and win over the citizens he is high IMO.

Iraqi Group Uses Michael Moore Film to Mock Bush - Reuters

Iraqi group uses Michael Moore film to mock Bush
Fri Aug 18, 2006 6:02 AM ET

By Alister Bull

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi militant group has produced an elaborate video of what it said were attacks on U.S. troops, in the latest example of the increasingly sophisticated propaganda war being waged by Iraqi insurgents.

"The Code of Silence" was posted on the Internet by the Rashedeen Army, thought to be a relatively small Sunni group which has produced videos in the past of attacks it claims to have carried out.

At almost an hour in length, it is the longest and most professionally made of recent postings by mainly Sunni militant and insurgent groups fighting the U.S.-backed government.

The U.S. military said earlier this week that recent intelligence indicated al Qaeda in Iraq was refining its strategy by producing propaganda and adding a political base to its violent campaign of suicide bombings.

Lifting scenes from Michael Moore's anti-war film "Fahrenheit 9/11", Rashedeen's narrator taunts President Bush in softly spoken English over graphic images of Humvees being blown up by roadside bombs, and purportedly dead U.S. troops.

It was not possible to verify when the documentary was made or the authenticity of any of the images portrayed by Rashedeen, whose name means Army of the Rightly Guided.

At one point, the documentary cuts to a scene from Moore's 2004 award-winning film where he lobbies on the steps of the U.S. Congress in Washington.

"After all, there are honest and influential guys in America and if Mr Moore can talk to you like that, so can I," the Rashedeen narrator says.

In addition to numerous bomb and rocket attacks, the documentary also shows two militants painstakingly drilling a hole into an old artillery shell, turning it into a homemade bomb and then burying it to create a deadly trap.

"In the good old days of the invasion, this used to be a one-man show. Not any more. Your boys have become smart. They started to ambush us. Today it takes a big unit.

"That's good. It means your boys are on the run all day long, seven days a week. And it is really devastating for them, especially if they are on their third tour and don't have our secret weapon -- patience."

Pushing Back Against Executive Power

by: jwwalthall

(We missed a BOR milestone! The following journal entry was the 1,000th entry on the new BOR website. Thanks to all those who have helped us keep up on issues in the Journals, and we look forward to the next 1,000 posts! - promoted by Phillip Martin)

This week the board of the American Bar Association unanimously voted to create a task force to investigate the use of presidential signing statements and what effect they have on the balance between executive and congressional powers.

Reportedly, President Bush has used this executive priviledge more than all past presidents combined.  Bush 41 issued 232 signing statements in his four years in office, and Clinton issued 140 in his eight years.  Bush 43, however, has issued more than 500 statements challenging more than 750 bills passed by Congress...already.  Interestingly, President Bush is also the first president since the 1800's who has yet to veto a bill.

Oil, What is it Good For?

by: stepwinder

Tue May 09, 2006 at 04:03 PM CDT

Presidential speechifying (thank you K-T for including this graphic in yesterday's Round-Up).

Nixon rallied against Big Oil while Ford declared high prices on foreign fuel stood between Americans and their destiny. Jimmy Carter dutifully insisted "the energy industry should not reap large unearned profits," while George H.W. Bush preached of a future based on diverse energy sources. Could he have predicted his son's confidence in switchgrass in 2006?

Talk, talk isn't enough and our politicians know it. Today it's all about the photo op. Dennis Hastert was on top of his game before lunging for his SUV and the security only it can provide .  Let's also give Congress credit for the new ideas they've brought to the table. There was the $100 rebate decried as insulting until a wild-eyed Dem proposed a $500 rebate (that's insult x 5). If the public insists on more than words and pictures (this time), our representatives are prepared to buy votes! When is the last time Washington was that honest with us?

In the days after September 11th, our patriotic duty required shopping. Today it demands we step on the gas. If Congress can keep us driving, perhaps we won't ask questions about our foreign policy and how it relates to this current crisis at the pump.

Our elected representatives are serious....seriously concerned their campaigns for re-election can't run on empty. What do Kay Bailey Hutcihson, Tom DeLay and Rick Santorum have in common? Besides being three people I hope I don't meet in heaven, they're at the top of a list that might explain our being stuck in nuetral for over 30 years:
