Meeting for the Texas Democratic Women of Collin County

by: Jihaan

Mon Sep 08, 2008 at 10:19 PM CDT

The next meeting of the Texas Democratic Women of Collin County will be held on Monday September 22 6:45pm at Collin College Preston Ridge Campus 9700 Wade Blvd, Frisco - Founders Hall,  Shawnee Room F148.
We are going to focus on our Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts and hear from Jean Power, candidate for County Commissioner.  Jean was chosen to run for a seat unexpectedly vacated due to a commissioner's death in July, so she is coming into the race late.  Come prepared with your questions and willingness to help get Jean elected --- and all our other wonderful Democratic Candidates!

It's Time For Real Debate

by: RBearSAT

Sat Sep 06, 2008 at 02:53 PM CDT

Now that we're past the conventions and into the final phase of the election cycle its interesting to see how the conversation has changed between the two parties. Up until the selection of Joe Biden as the Democratic VP the conversation was somewhat civil with the occassional jab at each other. That's to be expected.

After Biden's selection the jabs started taking personal turns. Obama's experience, while sporadically mentioned, really became questioned as the Republicans introduced commericals with clips of Biden speaking of experience during the debates. Democrats responded pointing to Clinton's experience as the governor of a small state in the South and his success as president.

Then McCain selected Sarah Palin and the experience factor reentered the discussion, this time from the Democrats as they questioned whether the mayor of a small Alaskan city and the governor of Alaska could seriously be VP of the nation. The low point of the back and forth came when reports entered the blogosphere about the legitimacy of Palin's son Trig. That prompted revelations, not of any issues with Trig, but with the pregnancy of Palin's teenage daughter out of wedlock.

In all this back and forth the real question is not of these issues. It's about the real lack of issue dialogue by the Democrats and Republicans.

Time for battle. Time to get to work.

by: Mack Simpson

Fri Aug 29, 2008 at 02:41 PM CDT

We've had our fun.

We've watched. We've oohed and we've aahed. We've played armchair pundit and we've debated the personalities.

Now we know what the tickets are: McCain/Palin vs. Obama/Biden.

It's time to put an end to the mental exercises, roll up our shirtsleeves, get serious and get to work. Real work. For ALL our candidates.

Block walking, phone calls, donations. Real sweat equity.

It's rubber hits the road time.

I'll see you at the victory party.

Convention: Day 3

by: IrvingForObama

Thu Aug 28, 2008 at 11:24 AM CDT

I didn't realize it when I woke up this morning, but today was a day of American Political Renaissance.

Today's delegation breakfast was accompanied by some awesome speakers: Rick Noriega, Paul Begala, Eddie Bernice Johnson, Kirk Watson, and Chris Bell. All the speakers were excellent, but Paul Begala particularly impressed me with his wit, energy and passion when he spoke about uniting the party.

We picked up our credentials and signed in for the roll call vote at the hotel. Many of us got our pictures taken while signing. (There was a little fuss about making sure the votes were legit, and having an observer there, yada yada... But Boyd Richie handled it pretty well.

I didn't have any plans for the morning, but I met an antique store owner on the light rail to downtown. She had a list of things to do, so I joined her. She had a lot of good conspiracy theories to share! She also had a key chain set of 7 keys - a mock of McCain's ambiguous homes.

We ended up watching an independent film called "Trouble at Water". It was a documentary about a lady from the 9th Ward who not only survived Hurricane Katrina, but she filmed her own documentary before, after, and during the disaster.

Quite frankly, I never really thought about the implications of how FEMA/Bush Administration handled New Orleans. You could say, I gained an important perspective that I did not have before...

Now, how do I begin to describe what it feels like to have been at the Pepsi Center tonight? Should I start with the Roll Call Vote and how Arkansas unanimously gave all their votes to Sen. Obama? How N.J. did the same? Or should I talk about how Sen. Clinton brought grown men to tears when she motioned to end the Roll Call?...

2nd Day at the DNC Meeting...

by: david.holmes

(Mr Holmes keeps us informed. Here is Day 2. - promoted by Matt Glazer)

The 2nd day of the Winter DNC meeting brought more candidate speeches and more campaigning.  We heard from the remaining candidates and handled a little business.

One bit of business was the Young Democrats' attempt to get "youth" included as a required target in each state's delegate selection plan for the National Convention as nearly any other constituency you can think of is already included.

The attempt failed, but each state will be pressured to add youth targets anyway.  Texas will have it.

Now, about the candidate speeches today:
