Soechting endorses a republican in Hays County, encourages other democrats to follow him to hell

by: Les

Wed Oct 29, 2008 at 10:10 PM CDT

Charles Soechting, under the guise of former State Democratic Chair, is circulating a letter endorsing republican  Will Conley for Hays County Commissioner Precinct #3. This is news only in that he is using his former title in the endorsement.
A strong democratic candidate, Steve Klepfer, is running against Conley and he has the chops to do a great job for Hays County. Soechting is way out of bounds on this stunt.

Watch Barack Obama's 30 Minute TV Broadcast

If you missed it, watch it, and then think about the 109 year old African American daughter of a slave in Bastrop, TX who voted for Obama.

I cried. In a week, this man will be elected our president.

HD-52: Craddick's PAC Gives Another $100,000 to Bryan Daniel

by: David Mauro

Wed Oct 29, 2008 at 07:47 PM CDT

Bryan Daniel, the Republican nominee in House District 52, is spending a lot of money to spread a lot of misinformation about his opponent, Diana Maldonado, who recently received the endorsement of the Austin American-Statesman.

Luckily for him, Daniel has friends like Speaker Tom Craddick to help bankroll his misleading attacks.

After Craddick's Stars Over Texas PAC contributed $125,000 to Daniel's campaign, the Statesman's Laylan Copelin is reporting that the PAC has given Daniel an additional $100,000.

Bryan Daniel is a guaranteed vote for the failed policies of Tom Craddick. He's been bought and paid for and has even adopted the same kind of "say anything to win" mentality that has run rampant in the DeLay-Craddick Texas Republican Party.

Diana Maldonado will be a voice for all of Williamson County and will not owe $225,000 of gratitude to a single corrupt politician.

Update: I forgot to mention that, as Phillip reported a few weeks ago, Maldonado had over a $250,000 cash on hand advantage over Daniel. When you only have $19,000 on hand and then receive $100,000 from Tom Craddick's PAC can you even claim independence?

The Power of Positive Thinking: McIntuff's Take on the Numbers

by: liberaltexan

Wed Oct 29, 2008 at 07:32 PM CDT

"The McCain campaign has made impressive strides over the last week of tracking." I am not exactly sure what Republican pollster Bill McInturff means by impressive strides. According to the Gallup Daily tracking poll since October 20th Senator Obama has not dropped below 50% in the poll and Senator McCain has not risen above 43%.

This morning on MSNBC McInturff pushed the idea that the majority of undecided voters, which is between four and eight percent, will break for McCain.

Voting irregularities--and hotline

ACLU 2008 General Election Voter Hotline

AUSTIN - The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas today asked voters to watch for irregularities at polling places and urged voters to report problems to election officials and the ACLU Election Hotline.

The ACLU Voting Rights Project has launched a toll free hotline so voters can report voting rights violations and irregularities.

"This is one of the most important elections in our nation's history and a record turnout is expected," said Terri Burke, executive director of the ACLU of Texas. "Because of the sheer numbers expected at the polls for early voting and on Election Day, there will undoubtedly be some problems. Most situations can and will be resolved easily and on the spot. However, voters with unresolved issues and concerns should contact our Election Hotline."

Voters with complaints are encouraged to call the toll-free Election Hotline, 1-877-523-2792. The Election Hotline is available 8 am to 5 pm weekdays and will be available 5 am to 11 pm on Election Day, November 4.

VOTING IRREGULARITIES TO WATCH FOR:

• Poll watching activities that go beyond mere observation and become harassment. For example, poll watchers taking photos of voters, asking for I.D. or wearing attire that looks like law enforcement uniforms.

• Disinformation campaigns, such as posting fliers in minority neighborhoods or near the polls prior to elections which give false information. For example, signs advising that people with unpaid traffic tickets are liable to be arrested if they vote or that ex-felons can't vote. Texas law allows felons who have completed their sentences to vote.

• Moving polling places on short notice or without sufficient warning, and, if the jurisdiction is covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, making the change without pre-clearance.

• Inserting phony voters in lines at the polls to lengthen the lines and discourage would-be voters from getting in line.

• Any other voter intimidation or suppression practices.

• Polling place difficulties such as problems casting provisional ballots, polls opening too late or closing too early, and lack of access to centralized voter registration records.

• Problems with voting machines, including both human errors and technology-related problems.

• Efforts to tamper with voting machines or otherwise affect the outcome of the election. For more information on the ACLU Voting Rights Project, go to: www.aclu.org/votingrights.

John Cornyn Hearts George W. Bush

Once again, I find myself apologizing in advance if you have this catchy tune stuck in your head the rest of the day:

Yet another good reason to send Rick Noriega to the U.S. Senate.

Monitor Texas Election Problems with OurVoteLive.org

by: sonia

Mon Oct 27, 2008 at 01:51 PM CDT

This is one of the coolest web applications I've seen developed specifically for this election to help monitor reported voting problems.  I would encourage any of you working with campaigns and in the field as poll watchers, poll workers etc to help voters know that this hotline is for their use.  The number is toll free and at the same time the incident gets tracked and monitored.  866-OUR-VOTE

Monitor Election Problems Nationwide with OurVoteLive.org

Search by State or County for Real-Time Voter Reports on Election Day

San Francisco - Reporters, bloggers, and voters across the country can monitor problems at the polls on Election Day on OurVoteLive.org, a project built and hosted by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on behalf of Election Protection, the nation's largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition, and its toll-free voter-assistance hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE.

Thanks to Barbara at Avenue Galley- NOT!!!

by: refinish69

Sun Oct 26, 2008 at 05:33 PM CDT

For the past few weekends, I have been working with the Travis  County Democratic Party registering voters and doing visibility on South Congress Avenue.  Part of the visibility work I was doing was doing was merchandising Obama Stuff for visibility.  The wonderful owners of Uncommon Objects on South Congress had given us permission to set up a table in front of their shop.  The owners and staff are great supporters and were extremely helpful.  I wish I could say the same for Barbara.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram Endorses Obama!

by: alaprst1

Sat Oct 25, 2008 at 01:53 PM CDT

(Be sure to check out this awesome graphic as well. - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Four years after it endorsed George W. Bush for president, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has wised up and endorsed Barack Obama for president.

This endorsement represents a healthy contrast to the helter-skelter reasoning the Dallas Morning News presented the week before in its ill-thought-out endorsement of John McCain (which was disgraceful at its base for its failure to address the huge issues presented by McCain's sad choice of Sarah Palin to be his running mate).

More below.

Help Us Shut Down MikeMcCaul.com!

by: ReTortionist

Fri Oct 24, 2008 at 02:19 PM CDT

(Xposted at TexasKaos)

We've been intermittently publishing the McCaul Retort for almost two and a half years. That's like fifteen years or something, in Interwebz time!

The Doherty campaign sent out the following quote from a McCaul communique:

I wish that I could email you under better circumstances, but today we received shocking news. After receiving numbers from the Travis and Harris County elections offices, we have determined that Democrats are out-voting Republicans 2:1 in both major counties in Congressman McCaul's district. This is based off of voters that have voted with primary history. This is very bad news.

THIS
IS
GOOD
NEWS
FOR
TEH McCAUL RETORT!!!!

Please, won't you help us shut it down? A vote for Larry Joe Doherty is a vote to shutter this opposition website forever.

Wouldn't the world be a better place with one less political website?

Vote for Larry Joe Doherty today!
