TX-32: The editorial that will help us win

by: CoolOnion

Sat Oct 11, 2008 at 10:50 AM CDT

A version of this diary was cross posted at Daily Kos.

Out here in the lonely boondocks of the gerrymandered 32nd Congressional district, no one does polls, so I have no hard data to back up my optimism about Eric Roberson's chances for winning, but today, I saw yet another hopeful sign that things are going our way--the Dallas Morning News' endorsement of incumbent Pete Sessions.

Their praise of Sessions is almost "dog whistle" politics against him.  Follow me over the jump, and let's take a look at what they said, and how this is a win for us...

Let's Put Our Students First

by: Laura Ewing Campaign Netroots Outreach

Mon Sep 22, 2008 at 11:37 PM CDT

There is an extreme faction on our State Board of Education (SBOE) that has a specific agenda that is not in the best interest of our children's education.  Incumbent board member David Bradley is a member of this extreme faction.  He represents the seventh district on the SBOE, which includes Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, and portions of Harris counties.  The SBOE approves all public school curriculum and selects text books for our schools.

Interview with Eric Roberson

by: kuff

Thu Jun 26, 2008 at 06:08 AM CDT

(Be sure to check out the interview.   - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

I had the chance to meet Eric Roberson, who is running for CD32 up in Dallas, while I was in Austin for the Democratic convention, but due to my short stay our schedules didn't allow for an interview. Fortunately, he was going to be coming to Houston shortly afterward, and I took advantage of that to rectify the omission. We're all aware of the recent IVR poll that shows him trailing Rep. Pete Sessions by only nine points. Now you can hear what he has to say on a variety of issues, from Iraq and FISA to immigration and why he calls himself a former Republican. The interview is available here, along with links to other candidate interviews I did at the convention.

by: allonghorns

Sun Jun 22, 2008 at 09:10 PM CDT

( - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Rick Noriega was selected by The Progressive Electorate blog as a finalist for it's first candidate. The Progressive Electorate will committ to donate/raise $1,000 for the winner and $500 for second place.

There are 4 other candidates that have been selected.

Go here, create an account like you have here on BOR, and vote for your favorite. Probably Rick Noriega if you are on this site.

I'm going to continue to promote my Better Senators for Veterans Act Blue page this cycle.

I will continue to cross post here when I am focusing on a Texas issue.

Thanks

Candidates not being invited to the Inner Faith Forum

by: Purple Junkie

Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 03:11 AM CDT

Candidates Samuel Osemene, Allen Demling, Ken Weiss, Ken Vasseau, and Jennifer Gale were not invited to a public forum for Inner Faith on April 20, 2008.

When Inner Faith was spoken to they could not give the candidates any reason to why they were not invited to the Inner Faith Forum.

There are several questions that needed to be answered before this matter can be cleared up:

1. The Inner Faith group stated that they are non-partisan. If this group is non-partisan then why were not all the candidates running for Austin City Council invited to the forum?

2. The forum was a public event; did they not know that the candidates would find out something about this event?

3. Were these candidates honestly over looked or does  Inner Faith discriminate  against certain candidates?

4. Why couldn't every candidate running have a fair chance to speak in front of the Inner Faith Group?

5. Would Inner Faith be willing to apologize to these candidates admitting that they made a mistake and that this will never happen again?

Is the TDP Going to Get Sued by the Clinton Campaign for the Caucuses?

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 07:15 AM CST

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
The Texas Democratic Party is warning that its March 4 caucuses could be delayed or disrupted after aides to White House hopeful Hillary Clinton raised the specter of an "imminent" lawsuit over its complicated delegate selection process, officials said Thursday night. [...]

In a letter sent out late Thursday to both the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama campaigns, Texas Democratic Party lawyer Chad Dunn warned that a lawsuit could ruin the Democrats' effort to re-energize voters just as they are turning out in record numbers.

Spokesmen from both campaigns maintained there were no plans to sue before the March 4 election.

"It has been brought to my attention that one or both of your campaigns may already be planning or intending to pursue litigation against the Texas Democratic Party," Dunn said in the letter, obtained by the Star-Telegram. "Such action could prove to be a tragedy for a reinvigorated Democratic process."

A lawsuit over the caucus process is the worst thing that could happen on March 4. Talk about torpedoing every opportunity raised by the incredible turnout from the Clinton and Obama campaigns in Texas. Both campaigns spoke about the potential lawsuit:
"Officials from Senator Clinton's campaign at several times throughout the call raised the specter of 'challenging the process,' the official said. "The call consisted of representatives from both campaigns and the Democratic Party."

The source, who did not have authorization to speak about the matter on the record, said Clinton's political director, Guy Cecil, had pointedly raised the possibility of a courtroom battle.

But Adrienne Elrod, Clinton's top Texas spokeswoman, said campaign and party officials had merely discussed primary night procedures and that the campaign was merely seeking a written agreement in advance. She could not elaborate on the details of the agreement the Clinton campaign is seeking. "It is our campaign's standard operating procedure that we need to see what we are agreeing to in writing before we agree to it," Elrod said. "No legal action is being taken. We have no reason to take any legal action."

Obama spokesman Josh Earnest said the Obama campaign had no plans to sue.

"We're confident that by working closely with the Texas Democratic Party and the Clinton campaign we'll have a caucus that Texans can be proud of -- because every eligible voter will be allowed to participate and have their vote counted in a timely manner," Earnest said.

Hopefully, this is all just a lot of talk and nothing materializes it. But if there is a lawsuit leveled against the TDP over the caucus system, I'll leave school for a month to follow whichever campaign files a lawsuit and heckle them at every single rally they have.

A lawsuit about the caucuses would be the most damaging way to proceed with this -- to date -- incredible presidential campaign in Texas.
