| I was happy to get this press release in my inbox: Representative Chuck Hopson received confirmation today from the Office of the Speaker of the House that Brian Walker has formally withdrawn the election contest that was filed late last week. “Our campaign prevailed on November 4th and again after a full recount. While we were confident we would prevail and that the election process in all four counties was administered competently and fairly, we are pleased that this election has come to a conclusion. Now we can better focus our attention on the many issues facing Texans and their families during the 81st Legislative Session, which starts on January 13, 2009.
Brian Walker lost a recount previously; the election contest was never a real thing, except it showed that Walker was capable of some pretty cheap and petty politics. With this formality now cleared, though, then we know the Texas House will be comprised of 76 Republicans and 74 Democrats at the start of the session. |
