HD 52: Democrat Maldonado has 14:1 Cash-on-Hand Advantage!

by: Phillip Martin

Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 11:20 AM CDT

Building off of last night's great late news on Sherrie Matula, we learn today that another TexBlog PAC endorsed candidate, Diana Maldonado, is dominating her Republican challenger Bryan Daniel in the 30-day out report:

  Contributions Expenditures Cash on Hand
Democrat Diana Maldonado
$227,293.75 $79,996.58 $278,368.50
Republican Bryan Daniel
$84,874.34 $74,831.27 $19,142.36
Maldonado's Advantage $142,419.41 $5,165.31 $259,226.14

Eye on Williamson County -- who are one of the best blogs in the state, and have done an incredible job covering the HD 52 race -- break the news this morning:

This news is going to cause absolute panic in the Speaker’s office. The groundswell of financial support for Diana Maldonado has given the Democratic candidate for House district 52 enough of a cash advantage to guarantee her message will reach voters between now and election day. In a race that is being watched from Washington to Midland, today’s Texas Ethics Commission reports represent perhaps most the stern rebuke of the Republican party that we’ve witnessed during this remarkable campaign season.

Apparently almost $30,000 of Daniel's money came from a single contributor -- Bob Perry.

More great news as we try and take back the House!

Congratulations to Team Maldonado!

Glad to see (0.00 / 0)
that the Democratic political machine is raising over a quarter million for a state house seat!

Great news, but look out for a Special Interest Cash Flood (0.00 / 0)
What these Democratic cash on hand advantages mean in several Texas House races is obvious: the big monied interests that have sat in the owners' box in Tom Craddick's House are going to flood some of these races with dirty money after this 30 day report, hoping that by waiting until the end they won't become an issue.

They won't give up what the control they purchased under Craddick without a fight. And they want control so badly they apparently won't even trust their own candidates enough to give their campaigns the money. Instead, the special interests will play vertriloquists to their dummies, probably by swarming mailboxes and/or airwaves with distorted, last minute negative attacks. After all, they sure as hell can't run on the Republicans' record.

So let's be prepared to defend our House candidates and respond the same way we have to be prepared for the McPalin swiftboat run. Our candidates are in position to get their messages out, and we should make sure that voters and media are warned about toxic campigning that may be at the printer today, under the name of some committee, paid for by the likes of Bob Perry, James Leininger, and other Craddick cronies who have profited at our expense for the last six years.

Daniel's little amount of cash (0.00 / 0)
He's up on the radio with an ad about illegal immigration and other right wing nonsense, I heard him on KVET this morning.

To echo the earlier comment, it's not time to ease up.  Daniel has probably picked up a few giant checks after the reporting period, he's already shown he's cool with taking $30k from Swift Boat Bob Perry.
