Question (0.00 / 0)
Can you mail in your voter registration as long as it is postmarked by tomorrow?

Yes (0.00 / 0)
From the Texas Sec. of State website.

You must be at least 17 years and 10 months of age on the date you apply. If for any reason you cannot register yourself, with your permission, your spouse, parent or child may fill out and sign an application for you if that person is a registered voter or has applied for voter registration. This person is known as your "agent."

The application must be received in the Voter Registrar's office or postmarked 30 days before an election in order for you to be eligible to vote in that election.  You will receive a voter registration certificate in the mail after the Voter Registrar has processed your voter registration application. Upon receipt of the voter registration certificate, sign it, fold it and keep in it in your wallet and take it to the polls with you when you vote.

Let's just clarify that tomorrow means postmarked Oct 6th (5.00 / 2)
And don't just drop it off in a blue mail collection box.  You need to make sure that they will be postmarked with Oct 6th.

Last day voter registration - Dallas (3.00 / 1)
The Obama Dallas office will be holding voter registration from 11AM-1PM and from 4PM-midnight today at their offices at 1409 So. Lamar, Dallas.
Please let felons know that if they are 'off paper' they are eligible to vote, but they must register by today's deadline.

Parker County is making registration house calls (3.00 / 1)
Long shot, but if anyone in the Parker County area (that's the county just west of Tarrant) wants to register we can come to their home/school/workplace and do it. Call 817-594-VOTE.

Harris County (0.00 / 0)
Unless there has been a change over the weekend, the numbers are not encouraging - the number of registered voters are barely what they were in 2004. Which means Republicans rule once more.  Which may explain why the Republicans moved quickly to point out that an extension of the deadline in counties affected by Ike were not necessary. They had the votes they needed. And they wanted to be sure the Democrats didn't.

There were some organizations, and individuals, who did some door to door canvassing but for the most part the "get out the vote" effort was once again conducted by setting up tables at community centers and churches and various other "safe" places for the volunteers.

The barrios and the ghettos are not nice places. But you know, having spent years walking around some of them in Third Ward, Fourth Ward, and in East End, most of the people who live there are nice people. They just don't have nice places to live.  Poverty is not contagious. And you can drink the water. Sometimes you get a nice glass of iced tea. Sometimes with fresh mint from the garden in the back.

A little culture shock is good for people. It also probably would have resulted in more voters being registered in Harris County and more Democrats being elected.
