Former Rep. Suzanna Hupp Calls On Libertarian Candidates to Drop Out

(It isn't the Libertarians' fault, it's the fault of a failed Republican Party platform.   - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Smells like Republican desperation:

Austin American-Statesman: A former Republican state representative called three Libertarian Party candidates for the state House on Friday to request that they drop out of their races rather than take votes from their Republican opponents.

Suzanna Hupp, who represented District 54 in Central Texas for 10 years, said she made the calls Friday because of concerns that the Libertarian candidates would take Republican votes and ultimately give Democrats control over state and national seats.

"The fact is, we've got redistricting coming up in a few years," said Hupp, from Lampasas, who served in the House from 1997 to 2007, "and if the Republicans lose the (Texas) House of Representatives because there are a handful of people mad at them and vote for the Libertarians instead, then we could be in big trouble at the federal level."

One day later, though, she could only recall two of the three districts (HD-64, incumbent Crownover, and HD-9, incumbent Christian) where she made calls to the Lib candidates asking them to quit.

Total lack of recall strikes again.  Hilarious.

I like your issues.

I contributed to your campaign. I'm nowhere near your district, but I'm pulling for you! :-)

This is (5.00 / 1)
your ActBlue page that I meant to link to. :-) Good night!

And the Democratic candidate in HD-64 (3.00 / 1)
is John McClelland.

It's important to take this bullying -- or maybe it's just cajoling -- of Libertarians to quit their races seriously: it's already occurred in Valinda Bolton's district, and that might represent a swing of a few hundred votes there, possibly a difference-maker.

There might be aeveral thousand voters across Texas disaffected enough to vote for "neither" R nor D, and certainly I myself have voted for the Lib when there was only a choice between an R and an L.

My personal opinion is that the Libs deserve some sympatico, and some support where they can be used as a tool to diminish or defeat Republicans.

Afflicting the comfortable via...

We should absolutely take this seriously (0.00 / 0)
Just because Hupp was always a little bit nuts in the Lege doesn't mean this isn't something we should take seriously. The GOP feels their grip on power starting to slip away in the Lege, and they're going to do everything in their power to keep it. I think we all know that includes ethical and unethical means. This is only the beginning.

Doesn't surprise me.... (0.00 / 0)
Personally, I've always felt LIBs were basically Republicans who like to play without a rulebook - so I can see why there would be some behind the scenes strategy sessions taking place. If they were smart, LIBs would root for the DEMS to win in a landslide. That would wipe out the current version of the Texas GOP and leave room for the LIBs to switch back over (with some real influence)!

GOP on the run from the issues (5.00 / 1)
Rather than run on the issues against the Democratic challenger (me), they would rather talk the Libertarian into submission?

Myra Crownover will have to explain to voters why she continually accepts money from Big Oil PAC's and not the people of District 64. Who is representing who here?
